2014 Fantasy Football Tight End ADP Sleepers and Busts

Jared Cook – Cook opened 2013 with a bang lighting up the fantasy boxscore with 141 yards and two touchdowns but was mostly free agent material the rest of the way. With Britt now in town Cook will no longer receive the bulk of the opposing defenses attention and should be able to post a solid TE2 season while posting some TE1 weeks along the way. We do not expect Cook to lead the team in targets again this year but he should be top three. Cook is currently going off the board as the 23rd receiver but is someone who is likely to push for top-15 numbers which makes him relevant in 16 team leagues and leagues where you can start more than one tight end.

Richard Rodgers – The other Rodgers on Green Bay has a leg up in the battle to be the Packers number one and has received hefty praise from QB Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is a receiving tight end with better blocking prowess than Brandon Bostick which makes him the favorite to start over Andrew Quarless and dynasty hold Colt Lyerla. Rodgers is currently going off the board as the 36th tight end but is likely to finish closer to our ranking at 23rd overall if he is named the starter to open the season.

Busts

Owen Daniels – Owners are drafting Daniels as the 22nd tight end off of the board even though he is now in Baltimore playing behind Dennis Pitta. While the Ravens will run some two tight end sets and Daniels followed Texans coach Gary Kubiak to Baltimore, it is Pitta who will be playing the Owen Daniels role in this offense. The fact that a backup is going before upside starters at the tight end position is reason enough for concern and those in two tight end or deeper leagues that allow you to flex a tight end should look elsewhere on draft day based on his current ADP.

Zach Miller – Fantasy owners must be suffering from a super bowl hangover as Zach Miller, while talented, will be hard pressed to post TE2 numbers this season. Miller has averaged just 51 targets per season in his three seasons with the Seahawks and also has to deal with the talented Luke Wilson behind him vying for targets at tight end. Miller is currently going off the board as the 20th tight end but will likely finish closer to our ranking of 39 or his ECR of 42.
