Carson Palmer to the Raiders: Fantasy Impact

18 October 2011 No Comment

The Oakland Raiders have finally got a legit quarterback for the first time in years.

The Cincinnati Bengals were swayed from their stance of not moving Carson Palmer by an unbelievable offer of a 1st round pick from the Oakland Raiders who were desperate to salvage their season after Jason Campbell went down with a broken collarbone.

This is a good move for the Bengals who got a steal of a deal with a potential for two first round picks, the Raiders on the other hand will be very short on picks in the 2012 draft but keep themselves in the playoff picture with this move.

Fantasy Impact:

Carson Palmer has a decent stable of young receivers to work with in Oakland and should be up to speed relatively quickly as Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was Palmer’s wide receivers coach in Cincinnati. Palmer should emerge with QB2 status within a few weeks.

Darren McFadden’s fantasy value gets a boost with this news as opposing defenses will have to respect Carson Palmer more than Kyle Boller or any other available option that was available via free agency or trade. Run DMC should remain a top-5 running back for the rest of the season.

Raiders wide receivers – All the Raiders receivers fantasy values get a boost with news of this trade as Palmer is a clear upgrade over the Raiders backup situation and is probably still a better quarterback than injured starter Jason Campbell. The Raiders receiver rotation is deep and thus fantasy value is hard to project week to week but Palmer will definitely let Jackson know who he is most comfortable with, so keep an eye on this offense to see who emerges.
