Christian Eyenga: Ask about me – I’m a hustler! The Cavs’ Bright Spot

1

Who is Christian Eyenga? He may be one of the few things to cheer about in Cleveland this year.

Even for the most avid NBA fan, it may be the first time you heard the name. It could be because he did not attend an NCAA college or because he was late-round draft pick, playing for the worst team in the league. Well it’s time to start recognizing that this 21-year-old can ball on the offensive and defensive end.

Christian Eyenga was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Last season he was drafted 30th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers . After riding the bench for the first two and a half months, Eyenga has started for the past nine games and has had a very productive February so far.

Over the past four contests, Eyenga has averaged 10.5 points, 4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.3 steals, 1.8 blocks, and 1 three-pointer per game. Considering that he is owned in just five percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues, these stellar stats have gone largely unnoticed.

Four games may be too small of a sample to extrapolate across the remainder of the season, but the most impressive aspect of his recent emergence is the consistency that he brings each and every night.  It wasn’t just one monster game that has skewed the aforementioned averages. Eyenga  has accumulated two blocks and one three-pointer in five of the last six games.

With the Cavs on a 24-game losing streak, they will focus on developing their young talent, meaning that Eyenga should continue to get ample opportunity to produce killer fantasy lines. In Yahoo fantasy leagues, he is eligible at three positions, but I like thinking of him as a point guard that averaged 1.8 blocks per game in the past week.

With a four-game week, pick up Eyenga if you need help in threes and in the hustle categories. He should continue to rebound, steal, and block shots.
