Hot Pickups: Week 14 – Five difference makers still available after waiver claims

Alex Green – Alex Green once again finds himself atop the Green Bay Packers depth chart and with Cedric Benson and James Starks both out for the fantasy playoffs, Green is the hottest add this week. Green is still available in 76 percent of Yahoo! leagues but could lose some carries to veteran and former Packer Ryan Grant who the Pack recently signed. Usually street free agents take a couple weeks to get acclimated but being a former Packer, the playbook will not be an issue, only conditioning. Add Green as a potential flex option and Grant to block rival owners who may use him against you in the playoffs.

Mike Thomas – With Titus Young banished, Nate Burleson already on I.R and Ryan Broyles joining him, Mike Thomas all of a sudden finds himself as the number two receiver on an explosive Lions offense. Thomas should not be counted on for more than flex value but could have some solid weeks for his owners during the fantasy playoffs. I expect Scheffler and Thomas to both benefit with an increase in targets so do not think Thomas all of a sudden gets all of Broyles and Young’s targets and the Scheff can also split out wide effectively. Thomas is available in 96 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Chris Givens – Chris Givens has entrenched himself as a WR3 and may be a fixture for years to come as Sam Bradford’s premier deep threat. Givens continues to impress and has made most fanalysts forget about rookie bust Brian Quick. Givens has averaged 102.5 yards over his past two games with eight receptions per game on ten targets. Givens is available in 76 percent of Yahoo! leagues and should be added wherever available.

Montell Owens – MJD will not be suiting up for week 14 and with Parmele on I.R and Rashad Jennings dealing with a concussion, Owens is now the Jacksonville Jaguars starting running back. Owens is nothing more than a flex option but could be a key add or block for the fantasy playoffs. Owens is available in 91 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

Josh Gordon – Flash Gordon is hot once again and Brandon Weeden seems to be enamoured with his young receiver. Gordon was red hot once he entered the starting lineup and may see another big game or two after a rock solid week 13 line of six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown. Gordon is somehow still available in 53 percent of Yahoo! leagues even after this weeks waiver claims have been made. Add him wherever available regardless of whether you intend to start him as a flex or block a rival from using him against you in the playoffs.
