Josh Morgan to Redskins: Fantasy Impact

0

Josh Morgan has agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins and will be joining fellow free agent Pierre Garcon as the top two receivers in a revamped offense that is expected to add Robert Griffin III as the number two overall draft pick this April.

Josh Morgan has always had talent and is well known in fantasy circles for his potential, formerly dubbed ‘Anquan Colston’ for his similarities to these two top wideouts, Morgan will finally find himself in an offense that is capable of effectively utilizing his talent.

Fantasy Impact:

Pierre Garcon – Garcon gets a competent number two whom will help keep defenses honest. Garcon will likely still see double teams but opposing defensive coordinators will soon have to scheme to stop Morgan and Davis as well as they figure to be quite prolific with the mobile RGIII hitting them on short to intermediate routes time and time again. Garcon is pegged as a WR3 with legit WR2 upside.

Josh Morgan – Josh Morgan looks to have a career year in his first season with the Redskins. He can operate anywhere on the field and should be peppered with targets playing beside number one receiver Pierre Garcon. It may turn out that Morgan is the better talent out of the two but opposing D’s will focus on Garcon because he is more of a proven commodity. This was likely one of the best, if not the best landing spot for Morgan who seems to have a early claim on the number two job ahead of sophomore Leonard Hankerson.

Robert Griffin III – RGIII now has some legit weapons to throw to with Garcon, Morgan, Davis, Hankerson and Helu all in tow. Expect Griffin to be a QB1 in most match-ups this season.

Roy Helu – Helu will benefit from the Skins now having a legit aerial threats in both Garcon and Morgan. Opposing D’s will not be able to stuff the box against the run allowing the dynamic Helu more space to operate. Helu looks like a solid RB2 for the 2012 season, though we recommend him as a RB3 if possible.

Leonard Hankerson – Hankerson has a ton of talent and now will not have to be forced into action. Hankerson will see snaps as a situational deep threat and the team will hope he can force his way into the starting lineup before long. His college ypc is indicative that he will find success with RGIII throwing him the deep ball and will help form one of the most underrated receiving trios in the league.

Fred Davis – Fred Davis will have a ton of more space to operate and should threaten to surpass his career highs in every category with RGIII at the helm. Davis is a special talent but we will have to monitor how the ball gets spread around with so many mouths to feed. With that said 60 receptions and 800 yards were possible in twelve games last year so we do not think it is far-fetched that he can surpass these numbers even with more weapons at the Redskins disposal. Davis is a TE1 with upside to be counted among the elite in 2012.
