Sit Em. Start Em – Week Five

Start Em

Philip Rivers – Rivers continues to impress this season and is looking like a must-start against the lowly Oakland Raiders. He is making the most out of the weapons at his disposal and has already resuscitated the fantasy values of Eddie Royal and Antonio Gates. Rivers comes in as a top-six option this week after putting up top-five numbers at the quarter pole of the season. Rivers’ 11 touchdowns land him third in the league.

Josh Gordon – By now it should be a no-brainer to start Gordon every week but due to his suspension to start the year most owners have other options to consider, this is not the week. Gordon squares off against a decimated Bills secondary this week on Thursday Night Football and comes in as a top-15 fantasy option. Play Gordon wherever you have him.

Terrence Williams – Miles Austin looks poised to miss another game and intriguing rookie Terrence Williams will draw another start in his place. Yes, the majority of his production last week came in the 4th quarter comeback bid but it helped to build rapport between him and Romo, which is only a good thing moving forward. Williams arguably has as much talent as Austin on the outside and should be a decent flex/WR4 option this week with WR3 upside.

Giovanni Bernard – Bernard finally out-touched BJGE last Sunday albeit in a loss to the Cleveland Browns. Bernard has been more impressive than Green-Ellis all season and we may finally be seeing a changing of the guard of sorts. Bernard is a rock solid flex option this week although we have him ranked as a RB2 due to the dearth of talent at the position. Start Bernard with confidence.

Knowshown Moreno – Moreno looks like an RB1 this week against the Cowboys. Looks weird writing it but the fact is Moreno has been among the most reliable backs so far this season, is 15th in the NFL in rushing yards and two of the names ahead of him are on bye while others such as Powell and DeAngelo both have tougher match-ups. Roll with Moreno every week going forward until further notice.

Julius Thomas – Julius Thomas remains a top five option at the tight end position and we have him ranked higher than even Jason Witten. The reason Thomas keeps showing up on this list is because if you did not draft in the last week of preseason there is a good chance you drafted another tight end higher, this is just a friendly reminder not to sit Thomas in any league unless you have Cameron, Gronkowski or Graham.

Sit Em

Andrew Luck – This recommendation should only be followed if you have a high upside backup like Rivers, Hoyer or Pryor. With that said Luck is welcoming the rugged Seattle Seahawks in to town which is never good news for a quarterback. Luck has been impressive thus far this season as he leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns by a QB (three-way tie) and has more rushing yards than Cam Newton, Jake Locker and RGIII. Luck has only thrown five touchdowns so far, numbers that would leave him amongst the bottom of the league in fantasy scoring if not for the aforementioned rushing stats. Sit Luck this week versus the Seahawks if you have one of the options mentioned above.

Stevan Ridley – Stevan Ridley has been a terrible disappointment this season and there is no reason to believe than Bolden and Blount will not continue to get snaps in the backfield. Compounding problems for Ridley owners is the fact that he would not even be a starter anymore had Vereen not injured himself in week one. Ridley remains a RB2 option due to upside but comes equipped with a flex floor and is a risky play going forward. Ridley was drafted as a RB1 by many owners so they may not have a bunch of higher upside options but he is a recommended sit if you have the roster luxury.

Willis McGahee – McGahee has yet to get into the swing of things for the Browns and is a recommended sit option for non Peterson and Morris owners. McGahee should get it going eventually and this may be the week but he lacks upside until he does and has a bench floor. He is not someone you drafted to start so sit McGahee where bye weeks will allow.

Andre Roberts – Roberts has been a disappointment this season after a terrific week one and has seen his targets decrease ery week culminating in a two target week four. Roberts should be on fantasy benches until further notice.

Aaron Dobson – With Austin Collie recently signed and Danny Amendola inching closer to a return there is a reason to be concerned about Dobson’s neck injury pushing him down the depth chart. Thompkins has emerged as the more reliable option although it is very evident Dobson is the teams big play threat at wide receiver. Dobson should earn a starting job sometime in the future but if Amendola or Collie start this weekend you may be better off starting another option.

Zach Sudfeld – Touted as a sleeper this preseason we hope you reached earlier for Cameron, but if you did not Sudfeld is safe to drop. Not even owners in the deepest leagues should be reaching to start Sudfeld who may not make an impact until he is able to run as the second tight end with the opposing defenses keying on Gronkowski.
