2014 QB Rankings
Here we are taking a look at the QB rankings for the 2014 season and breaking down our rankings into tiers. We will constantly be updating our rankings so be sure to bookmark this page for reference during your fantasy drafts.
Tier one includes Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford. All four of these quarterbacks have the ability to finish as fantasy football’s top QB and top scorer. Stafford will need to cut down on turnovers but his upside is right there with the other elites with a new head coach, new OC and new weapons in Golden Tate and Eric Ebron.
Tier Two – ‘The Great Options’
Tier two includes RGIII who should now become a QB1 and a flex RB rolled into one, Matt Ryan who gets Julio Jones back plus a new toy in Devonta Freeman, Jay Cutler who should thrive in a full season in Marc Trestman’s offense, Cam Newton who still has his legs and two large targets in Kelvin Benjamin and Greg Olsen, Philip Rivers who rejuvenated his career last season with Keenan Allen in the fold, Tom Brady who will see improvement from his young receivers and welcome back a healthy Gronk and Colin Kaepernick who will have a healthy Crabtree and a new weapon in veteran Stevie Johnson as well as a backfield that significantly increased in talent and depth. Finally we have Andrew Luck who has a litany of talented receivers in Hakeem Nicks, Reggie Wayne, T.Y Hilton, Da’Rick Rogers, Donte Moncrief and more. All of these quarterbacks possess the upside to crack the top five.
Tier Three – ‘Very Good options’
Tier three is full of signal callers who will likely post QB1 numbers in Tony Romo, Nick Foles, Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson and Eli Manning. This tier may be inconsistent from week to week but will have enough big games to fight for top-12 status at the end of the year.
Tier Four – ‘Backups and QB2’s’
Andy Dalton will no longer have Jay Gruden coaxing QB1 numbers out of him and is now more of a QB2 option, Ryan Tannehill has a shiny new toy in Jarvis Landry and Bill Lazor should make this offense more aggressive, Joe Flacco now has Steve Smith and Owen Daniels in addition to Torrey Smith and Dennis Pitta while Carson Palmer has an insanely talented wideout duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd at his disposal.
Tier Five – ‘Upside, but…’
Tier five is the ‘everybody else’ tier. Here we have Johnny Manziel who could post top-15 numbers when named starter, Terry Bridgewater who may not have enough pass attempts per game to be more than a QB2/bye-week filler, Josh McCown who will post QB1 numbers some weeks, Matt Schaub who is playing in Oakland, Alex Smith, EJ Manuel, Geno Smith and Michael Vick who may combine for top-15 numbers and Jake Locker.
Tier Six – ‘UDFA’s’
These are players you probably want to leave undrafted and they are Brian Hoyer, Tom Savage, Case Keenum, Blake Bortles, Chad Henne and Matt Cassel.
