Rizzla discusses some of the top D/ST for a week nine where there are not many appealing options
We don’t usually touch on D/ST rankings here but in a week chalk full of underwhelming options we found it prudent to share some of thoughts we stumbled upon while surveying our own options for week nine.
The New York Jets defensive/special teams is the option I’m rolling this week in DFS contests. This looks like a plus matchup for a defense that has shined at times and could offer a solid return at a fair salary. This is what we had to say about our selection of the Jets for Yahoo’s free roll contest:
“Owners of the number nine fantasy defense, the New York Jets Jets square off against a Dolphins offense giving up the thirteenth most fantasy points to opposing defenses and an average of three sacks over its past two contests.”
The Bears were the obvious top play this week, and on paper, it is not even close. Nathan Peterman has been a disaster so far is his young career averaging a pick every nine pass attempts, a ratio that make fantasy owners salivate. Khalil Mack seems to be close to returning to full health but will sit out week nine against a Buffalo Bills offense that is fully capable of imploding without the assistance of the defensive stalwart.
“According to Sascha Paruk from SportsBettingDime.com, the Bears are the top-ranked DST for Week 9, and it’s not close. Not only are they a top-four DST for the year, they have the best possible matchup: Chicago travels to Buffalo to face a Bills team that is deadlast in DST points against, giving up 14.5 points per week in ESPN scoring. Due to injuries to Josh Allen and Derek Anderson, Buffalo is also forced to start the pick-happy Nathan Peterman at QB. Peterman has a ludicrous 11.1% interception rate in his short career, throwing 9 INTS on just 81 attempts.”
If you’re streaming DSTs, the Chiefs are a sneaky-good option. They are giving up a ton of yardage and points, but are also near the top of the league in sacks (24) and are facing the Browns, who have allowed an NFL-worst 33 sacks. Plus Tyreek Hill is always a threat to score on punt returns.”
The Houston Texans are another defense we like this week as they face off against the struggling Case Keenum and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos lost some receiver depth when they traded away Demaryius Thomas to Houston and could see more coverage sacks as a result against a intimidating Texans front. Keenum leads the NFL in interceptions and despite a banged up secondary the Texans could add a few more to the the ledger by the end of the day. A solid bet for a couple of sacks and at least one pick the Texans are worth consideration this week.
