Anthony Randolph could be Fantasy – Relevant by the trade deadline

With Marcus Camby out for a month due to a knee injury, the Blazers have a shortage of big men. Meanwhile, the Knicks are looking to acquire draft picks to further entice Denver into dealing Carmelo Anthony.

This has led to the Portland Trailblazers officially stating their interest in Anthony Randolph.

Along with Troy Murphy, Randolph is among the biggest fantasy busts this season. After being drafted on average 79th overall in Yahoo leagues, the 21-year-old has appeared in just 14 games, averaging under eight minutes per contest. Considering he has only played once in 2011, it is safe to say that he sits firmly in Knicks coach D’Antoni’s doghouse.

In addition to Camby’s injury, Greg Oden is done for the season, Portland is starting either Joel Przybilla or Dante Cunningham at center, neither of whom possess much fantasy-relevance for the moment.

If Cunningham starts, he only becomes a one category player (rebounds). If Pryzbilla continues to start, he could be a decent source of rebounds and blocks.

As proven when playing for the Golden State Warriors, Anthony Randolph can also be a source of rebounds and blocks. The difference from Przybilla is that he can help in the scoring and steal categories as well, when given the minutes. A move to the Blazers would immediately make the talented third-year player fantasy-relevant, as he will have the opportunity at the center position.

He is currently sitting on waiver wires in 64 percent of Yahoo leagues. If the Blazers are willing to trade a draft pick for Randolph, they must see something in him that Coach D’Antoni does not. If you have an expendable player, consider scooping up Randolph if the trade goes down.
