As intimated by Rotoworld Prokhorov has a tough task ahead of him trying to convince Carmelo Anthony that playing in Newark and Brooklyn eventually with Brook Lopez is a better opportunity than playing with Amare Stoudemire in the fabled Madison Square Garden.
One would suspect that the only way they could convince Carmelo to agree to an extension with them would be with some under-the-table bargaining chips, perhaps a foreign mansion or two or a numbered bank account would suffice.
What is for certain though is that Brook Lopez has not done the New Jersey Nets any favors this season by rebounding at only a 5.8 clip, numbers that compare to the atrociously rebounding inept Andrea Bargnani’s 5.5 per game.
Blame it on Kris Humphries or blame it on the fact he has had to shoulder more of the scoring load, neither if of much significance due to the outstanding play of Amare Stoudemire this season.
It’s a long shot and I am sure some sportsbook out there will reflect that in their odds but if any owner in the NBA has the guts to make the offer he may have to make to get this deal done, its Mikhail Prokhorov.

I bet Prokhorov is going to secretly let Carmelo have a bunch of stocks for companies he knows are going to grow in Russia. Anthony will sign the extension getting $65 million for the next 3 years and he will get another $500 million or so from Prokhorov. Not bad. Listen, he is GOING to NJ if he is traded. Denver will not trade for the type of players NY has. Gallinari is nice, but nice isn’t what Denver wants. They want something more attractive like Devin Harris and Derrick Favors. So anyways, there’s just 6 days and some hours left for this thing to meet its deadline. And I guarantee you that next week, we will all wake up and Carmelo will be wearing a Nets jersey.
