Cedric Benson’s Fantasy Value
Rizzla: Benson has solid RB3 value with RB2 upside. Cedric Benson has never seen the types of lanes he saw in the preseason with the Packers and rightfully feels like a kid in a candy store. He is now playing for a legit Super Bowl contender and will never see a stacked box again with Aaron Rodgers healthy. Benson has rushed for 1,000 yards for three straight seasons on an offense where stopping Benson was the priority. The uninformed will complain that the Packers don’t run the ball enough for any running back to have fantasy value, but they ran the ball 395 times in 2011 and 421 times in 2010; plenty of work for this former ‘bust’ to crack the 1,000 yard mark once again.
Zach: Rumor has it that Benson could be the best Green Bay running back since Ahman Green. That’s pretty high praise, because Green was a stud fantasy running back in his day. I don’t see Benson being a completely featured back with Alex Green in the mix, but he’s still someone I’d be willing to give a chance on Draft Day. Right now I have Benson listed as my 40th best option at running back.
J-Has: Cedric Benson may be one of the few starting running backs that you can draft outside the top 100. Sure, he will not get the same high volume of carries that he did in Cincinnati, but he will be extremely productive when he gets the ball. While the defenses are focused on stopping the aerial attack of Aaron Rodgers with his deep threats in Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings, Benson will be quietly moving the chains on the ground. Even on a committee, Benson’s solid track record make him a great three-digit draft pick.
