Inspired by LeBron, Wade and Bosh, New Orleans star point guard Chris Paul wants to form a superstar alliance of his own in either: New York, Orlando or the Lakers.
No one can blame Chris Paul as New Orleans, rather than trying to build a contender, was in cost cutting mode this summer and traded away a lottery pick that could have greatly helped the Hornets quest to be more competitive.
Ken Berger of CBS Sports first broke the story after days of rampant speculation that Chris Paul was angling to do exactly this:
“He wants out,” said the person, who has been briefed on Paul’s strategy but spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly. “He wants to play with another superstar. He wants to follow LeBron’s model of teaming up with other great players.”
Paul’s list of preferred destinations consists of the Knicks, Magic and Lakers, and members of his inner circle already have sent word to the Hornets of his desire to be traded to one of those teams, sources say. If Paul has his way, he’s played his last game in a Hornets jersey.
“He feels like they haven’t put the right pieces together,” said the person familiar with the star point guard’s plans.
Chris Paul will likely flourish in another uniform where he actually has some talent surrounding him. I have never been a David West fan and feel he would be a key reserve on a championship caliber team. Trading away Cole Aldrich for two late first round picks may have been the straw that broke the camels back, but the Miami “Super Friends’ certainly helped and hastened his decision.
Good for Chris Paul, he deserves to go to a contender….
