Rizzla discusses his top cost per projected point (CPP) plays for week nine at DraftKings.
With week nines main slate just hours away we take a look at some of our top CPP plays for this week’s GPP tournaments at DraftKings.
Matt Ryan ($250 CPP; $5,700 Salary)
Our top CPP play at the quarterback position, Matt Ryan is our sixth overall QB this week while his $5,700 price tag has him pegged eleventh based on DraftKings salary rank. At a $250 cost per projected point Ryan faces off against a Washington defense that looks good on paper but a deeper analysis reveals they have given up 270.5 passing yards and 2.25 touchdowns per game to the good quarterbacks they faced this season (including a still struggling Andrew Luck in week two). Mysteriously underdogs in a contest against a struggling Washington team that will be without two of its top four offensive options in Chris Thompson and Jamison Crowder, Matt Ryan should be pressed to throw a lot to keep pace with his defense which is allowing 29.5 points per game this season on the road.
Phillip Lindsay ($345 CPP; $5,500 Salary)
Phillip Lindsay has been a revelation this season. The undrafted free agent is averaging a massive 5.7 yards per carry. Thirteenth among running backs with 66.4 rushing yards per game, Lindsay has summarily outplayed seemingly more talented rookie Royce Freeman this season. With Freeman highly questionable to go against the Texans, Lindsay’s $345 cost per projected point at a $5,500 salary looks too good to pass up. Our tenth overall running back for week nine, Lindsay checks in at 13th overall based on DraftKings salary rank. Fresh off a career game Lindsay will do battle against an intimidating Houston Texans defense that ranks solid against the run but have only faced three good running backs (four if you count James White) all season. The Texans have given up an average of 98.6 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown per game to the aforementioned three backs and that looks like Lindsay’s floor this week, especially if Freeman is unable to suit up as expected.
Kareem Hunt is our number two CPP play of the week at $323 per projected point, but since we covered him extensively in our FanDuel CPP column we chose to discuss our number one and three CPP values here instead.
Mark Ingram ($336 CPP; $5,000 Salary)
At a cost of $336 per projected point, Mark Ingram is our top CPP play at running back for week nine. While we have the $5,000 running back at eleventh overall this week, DraftKings has him pegged at 18th based on salary rank. Despite a massive 58 point over/under in this one, the two point dog New Orleans Saints will likely look to keep the explosive Rams offense off the field via their run and short passing games. While facing off against a Rams defense that grades well against the run in terms of limiting fantasy points against is not the best recipe for success, a deeper look reveals that the Rams have not exactly faced world beaters this season. The top three running backs the Rams have seen this season are Melvin Gordon, Chris Carson and RBBC member Aaron Jones, who have averaged 94 rushing yards per game with two total touchdowns. If that is not enough, to add insult to injury, they were also carved up for 5.6 yards per carry by career backup Mike Davis who also found the end zone against them.
Greg Olsen ($328 CPP, $4,700 salary)
Our top CPP value at tight end for week nine, Greg Olsen seems primed to explode in a potential shootout against a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense surrendering the second most fantasy points to enemy tight ends. Our third overall tight end for the week is a threat to post his best game of the season against a Buccaneers linebacking corps that is without Kwon Alexander for the season. Sixth in terms of DraftKings salary rank at a $4,700 price tag, Olsen checks in this week at a tight end leading $328 cost per projected point.
DJ Moore ($328 CPP, $4,300 salary)
Fresh off a breakout performance in week eight, I suspect DraftKings salary makers thought Torrey Smith would return for this week’s tilt against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Smith ruled out however Moore is in line for another monster game against a Buccaneers defense surrendering the third most fantasy points to the wide receiver position. Vegas pegs this divisional matchup at a whopping 55 total which should prove to be a beneficial game script for the speedy wideout who is eighth among receivers with 0.65 yards per route. Moore is our 25th ranked receiver this week but comes at a bargain price tag of just $4,300, which translates to $328 per projected point.
Courtland Sutton ($257 CPP, $3,900 Salary)
Courtland Sutton has a dream matchup this week versus the Houston Texans. With Demaryius Thomas out of town Courtland Sutton is now a starter who will look to pay immediate dividends in his new role. Our seventeenth overall receiver for week nine is facing a Texans defense that surrendered big receiving days to every talented wide receiver that have faced this season (their fantasy points against are skewed due to facing the struggling Jaguars, Bills and Cowboys). This will be the last time for DraftKings players to exploit a potential value opportunity of this magnitude when it comes to Sutton who checks in at a $257 cost per projected point and an alluring $3,900 salary (59th among receivers). Seventh in the NFL with 18.5 yards per reception Sutton looks destined for a career day with an expanded role.
