DeAndre Hopkins: Late Round Value With Early Round Potential
As we get ready for the 2014 NFL season, there are bound to be quite a few players talked about as far as fantasy football sleepers are concerned. While most sleepers are solid players, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has a chance to be a special talent in the NFL. He is hoping for a breakout season in his sophomore campaign with the Houston Texans.
Playing for the worst team in the NFL last year, Hopkins obviously got lost in the mix a little bit. It certainly does not help that he was forced to work with incompetent quarterbacks most of the year. He also had to share targets with Andre Johnson, a talented wide receiver in his own right. Hopkins is still going to be the 2nd option on the team, but his amount of targets should skyrocket under Bill O’Brien’s offense.
Even though he is just a second-year player, many fantasy football owners will forget about Hopkins after his rookie year struggles. That’s a mistake. Hopkins is well on his way to being a number 1 receiver, and it could happen as soon as this year if he progresses or if Johnson is traded. Working with new quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick should bring a bit more stability, so he will be good to go as far as that is concerned as well.
Hopkins has largely been overshadowed throughout his career. Even in college, most people paid attention to Sammy Watkins as far as wide receivers are concerned. With the Houston Texans, he can finally take off in his 2nd year as a true fantasy football sleeper. He’s rated right around 40th overall as far as receivers are concerned, but he can work his way into the top 25 easily this season with more targets.
