Win My Fantasy League writers Rizzla and J-Has discuss 4 fantasy basketball Deep Sleepers.
Rizzla:
Greivis Vasquez – The Grizzlies are not sold on Mike Conley Jr. as their franchise point guard and Vasquez is set to surprise a lot of people in Memphis with both his scoring and passing ability. Given full-time minutes Greivis Vasquez could average 15 and 6 for the Memphis Grizzlies and may even be able to must a 11 and 4 line off the bench, or in other-words an output similar to what Kirk Hinrich averaged last year in extended minutes (10.9 points, 4.5 assists).
J-Has:
Vasquez’s talent is there. He is a tall point guard that can rebound and defend. But with Tony Allen backing up O.J. Mayo at the Shooting Guard position, Vasquez may be limited to backing up Mike Conley Jr. Although I agree that Conley may not be the Grizzlies PG of the future, he will have to falter significantly in order for Vasquez to take over as the floor general in Memphis. But this is a story that you need to keep an eye on over the next month in Training Camp.
Jose Calderon
Rizzla:
Jose Calderon is one of those rare point guards who may be just as effective off the bench as he is in the starting lineup. He has not proven himself to be a trustworthy NBA starter due to his defense but we are not concerned with that in fantasy basketball. Calderon is able to average 6 assists per game off of the bench and will help your squad in the later rounds of your draft.
J-Has
After playing only 68 games in each of the last 2 seasons, Calderon’s fantasy ranking is at the lowest point since he became the Raptors starting Point Guard. His recent injury problems lead one to believe that he is a buy-low candidate since he produces assists and high percentages in any situation. But Now it appears Jarrett Jack will start the season as the primary PG in an offense lacking in a go-to-guy. To make matters worse, Jose is currently nursing another hamstring injury. We will keep an eye to see if this lingers throughout Training Camp.
Eric Bledsoe
Rizzla:
Eric Bledsoe – Bledsoe is a very talented young point guard and if can show the Clippers brass enough between now and the All-Star break don’t be surprised if they start to scan the trade market for potential suitors for incumbent starter Baron Davis. Bledsoe’s path to fantasy relevance depends on a B. Diddy injury or trade.
J-Has:
New Clippers Head Coach Vinny Del Negro stated that Baron Davis “started [working out]a little bit later probably than he needed to. He’s in pretty good shape right now, but he’s not where he needs to be.” Not a good sign if you plan to draft Baron. Also, Del Negro will not hesitate to pull Baron if he takes too many shots, as a case of the selfishness cannot be tolerated when are surrounded with guys like Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, and Chris, ‘The Caveman’ Kaman. If that happens, Beldsoe will be ready.
Jarrett Jack
Rizzla:
Jarrett Jack: Jarrett Jack is a starting point guard who is not getting any love. The Raptors had a deal in place to jettison hos PG competition in Jose Calderon and are still working to move the Spanish point guard. Jarrett Jack has legit 16, 4 and 6 upside in this offense if he is not looking over his shoulder and has the potential to actually average closer to 18 depending on other Raptors players’ development. He is the lowest ranked starter at #36 in the Yahoo! game and is actually 6 spots behind his backup Jose Calderon. I have him ranked as my #26 PG which is not indicative of his upside but there is no way he should be ranked outside the top-30.
J-Has
Completely agree with Rizzla with regards to Jarrett Jack.
