Derrick Favors Fantasy Basketball Rookie Impact

derrick-favors-0410-420Yes, the draft happened a while ago and the fantasy basketball season is months away but we can not do a sufficient analysis until a time when moves die down.

Let me explain,…when Favors was drafted it looked like he would be thrown into the ring of fire and be forced to learn on the job. No one really had any qualms with this as the Nets almost have to improve on their 2009-2010 record. However it should be noted that Favors is a very raw but extremely talented project big man. The Nets recently traded Courtney Lee to acquire Troy Murphy and that changed Derric Favors entire season outlook.

Favors is a very enticing big man who measured very similar to Dwight Howard. A frontcourt of Lopez and Favors is going to be a terror for at least the next five years but the acquisition of Murphy means they will be able to bring Favors along slowly and that they will not have to sacrifice wins in order to develop Favors. Murphy will also help to push Favors who will need to outplay his counterpart in order to get starters minutes, something a third overall pick undoubtedly wants.

Even coming off the bench Favors has the potential to average a low double-double of 12 and 10 but may more likely post a line of 12.7 and 8.6 barring an injury to one of the starters of course.

Favors has tremendous upside and should be a 1st round rookie draft target in all dynasty leagues despite his playing time situation. He qualifies a sleeper in all formats.
