Doug Martin or Trent Richardson?
Rizzla: This is a tough one, both play on teams expected to be under .500 and both are projected to be every-down backs. Richardson easily has more talent than Martin, but Martin arguably has the better offensive line. Both are upside RB2’s but only T-Rich has legit top-5 running back upside. In the end they project to have similar numbers with Richardson winning out due to TD upside.
Zach: I’ll take Martin over Richardson, but not too comfortably. Richardson’s current state of health makes me somewhat hesitant to make him a RB1. Meanwhile, Martin has been impressing in the preseason and has officially taken over the starting running back position over LeGarrette Blount. Martin has even more value in PPR leagues.
J-Has: Trent Richardson should have the better overall fantasy season, but Doug Martin is the safer pick. Richardson is coming off a recent knee scope, so drafting him is more of a risk. Not to mention, his lack of preseason action – something that cannot be overlooked for a rookie. Doug Martin, on the other hand, can be drafted a few rounds later and is likely to start over incumbent LaGarrette Blount. But even with all the risk, Trent Richardson should be Cleveland’s go-to-guy, while Doug Martin will likely get several goal line carries vultured by Blount.
