Rizzla presents his dynasty league rookie notes ahead of upcoming trade deadlines in custom leagues.
First I would like to preface these rankings by admitting that I do not watch any college games and only peruse tape on the prospects deemed fantasy relevant months before we even know where they land or what their combine measurables will be. The names covered are the ones that most frequently show up on day one or day two of current mock drafts.
With the trade deadline right around the corner dynasty league managers need to brush up on next years crop of potential rookies, especially teams who may already be out of the hunt and can find a way to sell off assets for higher value picks.
Note that these are just preliminary notes that will be expanded upon once the college season and combine are complete and that the sequence of listing is completely random and not intended as a ranking.
Wide Receiver
- N’Keal Harry – 50/50 ball type with explosion, may settle in as possession receiver, open field skills, excellent at winning and high pointing ball with defenders draped on him
- A.J Brown – Potential yac monster who can lineup anywhere, including the slot where his physical play can help make him a fantasy superstar
- Anthony Johnson – Solid do it all receiver with good size, talented receiver with excellent body control, fluidity in hips
- Kelvin Harmon – Can win consistently both over shoulder and high pointing the ball, looks like a solid possession receiver across from a one, will become ppr asset, runs solid routes, good body control, bordering on special talent
- JJ Arcega-Whiteside – Potential red zone extraordinaire, specializes in using sizeable frame to box out receivers for catches, monster target that looks more like a tight end but looks like he will be able to win outside consistently against no. 2 or 3 corners.
- Marquise Brown – Good route runner who can both stretch the field with electric speed and excel after the catch in the open field
- David Sills – Raw receiver with good football ability, good routes with good catch radius, can dominate in the red zone,
- Paris Campbell – Burner, potential measurable monster,
- Lil Humphrey Jordan – looks every bit the 6’4, 225 he is billed at, looks like a rich mans Kelvin Benjamin, excellent in contested ball situations, uses size and frame to box out defenders
Running Back
- Bryce Love – Potential every down back on right team, explosive, shifty runner with good feel for cutback lanes, shows an ability to operate in space that could make him a dynamic weapon in the passing game, good base, good build for size
- Damien Harris – powerful jump cut runner lacking top end speed, hits hole hard, solid elusiveness, tackle breaking ability
- Justice Hill – Every down skill set with size concerns at 5’10, 190 lbs, elusive, jump cut ability, wild runner capable of shedding tackles, has power element to game
- Trayveon Williams – small, compact power runner with some wiggle to his game
- Bennie Snell – hard hitting 222 lbs power back, NFL future depth chart dependent, needs to run with better pad level, runs upright at times, could be special when he fills out and develops mean streak
- LJ Scott – bigger back at 6’1, 229 lbs, hits hole hard, exhibits some shiftiness, displays power and an ability to break tackles
- Mike Weber – Every down skill set with some physicality and tackle breaking ability to his game
