Chris Kaman will be out for 2-3 weeks after spraining his left ankle in Tuesday’s loss to the Hornets. DeAndre Jordan and Craig Smith will get a boost in minutes over this span. Jordan is a short term pickup in only the deepest of leagues for those needing help in both the rebound and block categories. Craig Smith averaged 10 points per game when he played for Minnesota a few years ago in just 19 minutes each contest. But similar to Jordan, there are more fantasy-relevant options in most leagues. The biggest fantasy benefactor could be Blake Griffin, who should get more plays called for him, increasing his points per game.
Expect a reduction in Brandon Roy’s minutes due to some “nagging” injuries. Roy has been averaging 39 minutes per game this season, but his scoring, assists, and rebound numbers are down. He showed a lot of toughness during last year’s playoffs playing 8 days after undergoing knee surgery. Roy needs to be on the floor in order for the Trail Blazers to win, so I expect that the Portland guard will either take some games off or continue to play over 30 minutes a game. He is flying to Los Angeles to get his left knee examined, so stay tuned for an update.
In today’s Box Score Boxing, Rizzla noted Paul Millsap’s scoring binge of 46 points in yesterday’s come from behind win against the Miami Heat. But the most impressive stat was the 3 three-pointers that he hit at the end of the game. With a total of 2 three-pointers made over his four year career, yesterday’s 3 three-pointers in three attempts were surprising to say the least. Don’t expect Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to start calling double screens to free up Millsap to jack up shots from downtown. But I would not be surprised if Millsap took the occasional open three when trailing on a Jazz fast break.
Andre Iguodala, Jeff Green, Leandro Barbosa, and Carlos Delfino will sit out Wednesday’s game. Surprisingly Monta Ellis plans to play after falling hard on his back just two days ago.
