Fantasy Basketball Buzzer Beater for Nov 5th 2010

Nets Head Coach Avery Johnson has stated that the minutes of Derrick Favors will not be affected by the return of Troy Murphy to the lineup.  This is huge news for Favors owners and to anyone who is considering picking him up the rookie (available in 57% of Yahoo leagues).

Sports Illustrated investigates the reason behind Mike Conley’s amazing start to the season.  The floor general of the Grizzlies has been averaging 15.8 points, 9.2 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 steals, and 1.2 three-pointers over the first 5 games of the season.  I managed to snag him in both my leagues, drafting him at 105 and 109 overall.  Right now he is the 17th best fantasy player in 9-category standard leagues.

As mentioned in today’s Box Score article, Toney Douglas had a killer line last night. Despite coming off the bench, he has played at least 25 minutes in every game and scored double digits in each one of those contests.  So far when Wilson Chandler comes off the bench, he plays Power Forward, moving Stoudemire to Center.  This enables Douglas to be the first guard off the bench, spelling Fields or Felton.

According to Clippers.com, Baron Davis has sustained a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left ring finger.  But it does not require surgery as it should heal on its own and Davis could be back within a week.  Pay close attention to the Point Guard distribution of minutes once Baron returns.  Erik Bledsoe has been playing amazing in first two NBA starts, but had very limited minutes when Baron was in the lineup.  At the same time Bledsoe will be the biggest beneficiary if Coach Vinny Del Negro continues to be disappointed with Baron’s conditioning.

According to Rotoprofessor, Rodney Stuckey and Pistons coach John Kuesters have not been on good terms, and is likely the reason for Stuckey being limited to just 14 minutes of action last Wednesday.

Ryan Anderson started at Power Forward for the Magic, providing 4 three-pointers and 3 blocks. Anderson had a total of 14 blocks over the entire 2009-10 season, I would consider this an outlier. He played just 19 minutes, but the game was a blowout (the Magic destroyed the Timberwolves 128 to 86), so it is tough to get a gage on his per game minutes.  I would put Anderson on my watch list, but do not advise picking him up at this point.
