Steve Nash sat out Thursday’s game against the Magic with a strained groin. He is expected to play in Charlotte on Nov. 20th.
JR Smith played just one minute in week 4, losing his spot in the rotation to Gary Forbes, whom has played at least 16 minutes over the past 5 games. The real winner in Smith’s demotion is Aaron Afflalo, who is averaging 12.7 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.7 three-pointers over the past week.
There are reports that Troy Murphy is on the trading block after losing his starting spot to Kris Humphries. Nets Head Coach Avery Johnson has made it clear in the past that rookie Derrick Favors will continue to get minutes. This has resulted in a log jam at the PF position with Murphy as the odd man out. Murphy has been hurt so perhaps it is just taking time for him to get back into the rotation. He has always been more valuable as a fantasy player than as a reality player since he can knock down the three but is limited defensively. Considering he was the biggest acquisition for the Nets this year and a former stat stuff in points, rebounds and threes, things have not worked out for Murphy fantasy owners.
With Brandon Roy expected to miss the next few games, Wesley Matthews should continue produce a strong fantasy line. Even once Roy returns, Matthews will continue to be fantasy-relevant as the Blazers will likely put a cap on Roy’s minutes in an effort to limit his DNP’s for the rest of the season.
The starting lineup carousal continues in Sacramento. One game after inserting both Luther Head and Jason Thompson into the starting lineup, Coach Paul Westphal has decided to add Donte Greene to the mix. Thompson will return to the bench and Carl Landry will return to his Power Forward position.
ESPN provides a breakdown of the players that are producing strong ‘out-of-position’ numbers. For example, despite playing the Center position, Roy Hibbert is averaging an impressive 3.4 assists per game.
