Fantasy Basketball Hot Pickups – Week 2

These recommendations were made Saturday afternoon and is using statistical information up to Friday nights games.

Toney Douglas is the #5 ranked player over the last 7 days and is only 41% owned. His averages of 20 ppg, 5 rpg, 3 apg, 2.7 3pg and 3.7 spg are beastly and fantasy owners across the fantasy basketball landscape are kicking themselves for giving up on Douglas too soon. Needless to say if he is still available in your league, make the add.

Eric Bledsoe is creating a point guard controversy in Clipper land and the Clips have already began shopping Baron Davis. Bledsoe is only 20% owned and has proven to be more NBA ready than anyone except the most astute draft prognosticators imagined and rounded out the last 7 days with averages of 11 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.8 steals, 1 block and .8 threes. You can bet the Clippers are thanking the basketball gods that Bledsoe was kept virtually a secret playing on the same team as John Wall and thus slipped so far in the draft despite the Pacers and Raptors giving him serious consideration in the lottery.

DeMar DeRozan should take over as the Raptors #1 scoring option within a few months and we have seen the torch changing hands as of sorts with DeRozan taking more shots than Bargnani in LA and getting to the line 14 times against the Kings. Add wherever available as getting shooting guards with this type of scoring potential usually never happens via the waiver wire. If he can commit to getting to the line 10 times a game he can be a 18-21 ppg scorer. He projects as plus rebounder and shot blocker (for his position) given the minutes.

C.J Miles has been producing for the Jazz and has averages of 17.3 ppg, 3 3ptm, 3.3 rpg, 1.3 stl, 1.0 blk and is looking like he may be able to produce the fantasy friendly 1 three-pointer, block and steal a game if given the requisite minutes. He is only 12% owned as is a sneaky pickup for fantasy owners in need of a end of the bench player who can contribute in all categories.

Arron Affalo who was one of last weeks hot pickups is still only 54% owned despite still going strong with 14.3 points, 5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 threes and 1.3 steals over the past 7 days. Make the add wherever available.

Hakim Warrick has been averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds over the past 7 games and is making a serious case for an ascension to the starting lineup. Hedo finally showed up on Friday with a matching 18 points including 5 threes and it may be a couple more bad games by Turkoglu before the cheaper contract of Warrick finds himself in the starting lineup. He is only 24% owned.

Derrick Favors had a quiet night on Friday but still looks like a solid pickup. He is getting 20+ minutes most games and has averaged close to 8 and 8 in those games. As pointed out by Avery Johnson this year is about growing Derrick Favors as a player so his minutes will stay steady before increasing later in the year.

Greg Monroe’s role on the Pistons seems to be growing game by game and he is averaging 6.8 rebounds over the past 7 days. It may be a bit premature to call him a hot pickup but this is someone you want to stash on your bench due to his immense 16 and 11 type potential as a starter. He also has very good hands and projects as a plus passer when he starts to get starters PT.

Amir Johnson managed to stay out of foul trouble for once and responded with 12 points, 15 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block on .500% shooting and we got a glimpse of AJ’s true potential in the Raptors loss. If he can stay on the floor and get minutes he can produce at a very high level and provide his owners with unreal FG% to go with a solid double-double. Add to your watch list or make the immediate add in deeper leagues. He is only 23% owned.

Al Thornton has 14.7 and 6.3 rebounds over the past 7 games and is someone worth adding if you need the help in the points department. He is an inconsistent rebounder but he has also chipped in 1.7 steals over the past 7 days and at 24% owned is worth serious consideration if you have the roster holes.
