Fantasy Football Fix August 20th 2010
Cedric Benson catches 5 passes in preseason action. This is a very encouraging sign for fantasy owners as the main knock against Benson is that he is not a passing down back, but he has shown improved hands out of the backfield and if he can average about 3 catches a game he will likely finish the season a top-5 back and be in the top-5 conversation next year. Much like with Michael Turner of the Falcons, the Bengals wisely know that they are less transparent if Benson can stay on the field and be an effective receiver on passing downs.
Matthew Berry of ESPN released his You Heard Me football edition with his fantasy comments on every team in the NFL. Some of his predictions are outlandish such as under 1000 yards for Chad Ochocinco while others like Mohamed Massaquoi enjoying a breakout season are spot on. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not giving this a read.
ESPN Insider Fantasy analyst Eric Karabell reminded the fantasy football public that Donovan McNabb is a serious risk entering the run-first Redskins offense. He has Santana Moss and Chris Cooley and also has the promising Devin Thomas so I am not sold on him being too much of a ‘risk’ per se, but I am also cognizant that he probably no longer qualifies as a QB1 in any format with less than 14 teams.
The Seattle Seahawks are in negotiations with free agent receiver Vincent Jackson who is currently in a contract dispute with the Chargers. If the Seahawks land him Charlie Whitehurst becomes an immediate dynasty stash and Deon Butler loses the majority of his dynasty value.
The fact that they are only letting the Seahawks negotiate with V-Jax makes little sense as it reduces the potential return they can get for him, but this is a fantasy football post, not a business move analysis.
