Fantasy Football Fix August 24th 2010
Sidney Rice may be headed to IR and coach Brad Childress would not rule out the possibility. This is a big blow for Vikings fans and especially Sidney Rice owners as a lot of leagues have already drafted and many spent a WR1 slot on Sidney. Boost Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin, Greg Lewis and Javon Walker on your cheat sheets. AP also stands to see a lot more targets in the passing game after this recent news.
Derek Anderson may not have a firm enough understanding of the nuances of the Cardinals offense to be a credible threat to Matt Leinart’s starting job according to Darren Urban of the Arizona Cardinals website. This is a situation to stay away from if possible.
Jamaal Charles may be listed as #2 on the depth chart due to off-season surgery. Todd Haley wants to keep Charles in good health forwhen the games actually start to count and that is good news for fantasy owners.
Dynasty league stash James Starks may not be ready for the start of the season. Dynasty league owners will want to stash Starks on their bench as he may be the Packers running back of the future by their own admission. Starks has a lot of upside but has not seen the football field in a while, he will be given a chance to develop as a backup and hopefully be groomed to be Ryan Grant’s successor.
Javon Walker has officially signed with the Vikings and he has stated that this is the best he felt in a long time. The reuniting with Brett Favre should give him some fantasy upside especially with Sidney Rice undergoing surgery and in danger to miss a large chunk of the season if not all of it.
Demaryius Thomas returns to practice. Thomas is the Bronco’s #1 WR of the future and when his health allows him Josh McDaniel’s and the Broncos will ease Thomas into that role. Dynasty league owners want to make a move to acquire immediately, while he remains a bench stash with WR3 upside in redraft leagues.
Jason Reid of the Washington post suggest that both Larry Johnson and Willie Parker may be cut. We suggest that FWP willbe cut while LJ will be retained as a powerback and as insurance to both WMFL favorite Ryan Torain and starter Clinton Portis. Ryan Torian is worth a speculative add.
