Fantasy Football Fix August 2nd 2010
Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons will be more involved in the passing game this year. Huh? That is the same thing I said to myself as Turner has never proven to be a capable pass catcher, but according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he has capable hands and his passing down work will be increased this year.
This is spectacular news and Turners value just take a major boost, especially in PPR leagues where Turner always gets bumped down a few spots. Turner is still an RB1 and should be the 6th-8th running back off the board after Frank Gore and in a debate with Steven Jackson.
KnowShown Moreno was carted off the field with a hamstring injury yesterday and the latest reports have him missing about 3 weeks. This is no reason to drop him in your rankings as he will be ready for opening day where he will be the unquestioned starter. The good news here is that a top-20 running back has just been downgraded by rival G.M’s and there will be more ADP value. Moreno is still a RB2 with RB1 upside, draft with confidence the latest injury means you may be able to land him as your 3rd running back.
Mike Williams of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is getting first-team reps in training camp as was widely suspected, and fantasy football G.M’s can now confidently bump him up their cheat sheets. Benn is the better bet in PPR leagues while Williams will probably do better in TD heavy standard leagues. Draft with confidence as a flex play with significant upside. You are advised to try and land him as a bye-week filler.
Eddie Royal is working out of the slot in training camp (finally!) and there is reason to believe that Royal will have a steady bounce-back campaign after following up a terrific rookie season with a sophomore slump of sorts. We are viewing him as a poor mans Wes Welker until further notice, and without B-Mac in town Royal will get much more slant routes and routes over the middle as opposed to last year. Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post also believes that working Royal out of the slot will ‘translate to a much bigger year’. Draft with confidence as bye-week filler (based on ADP) but know you have a solid flex player at absolute worst. Eddie Royal and Jabar Gaffney have been running with the starters in training camp according to the Denver Post.
Former 10th overall pick Mike Williams of the Seattle Seahawks has another shot in the NFL, this time with his former USC coach, and reports have it that Williams is looking good and may make an impact on the roster. Williams is oozing with talent but has not been able to achieve the mental discipline necessary in order to succeed in the NFL, but as we have seen with recent breakout reclamation project Cedric Benson, it sometimes takes some players linger than others to mature. If Williams can make the roster he has the potential to a send to the starting lineup…call me crazy but Pete Carroll loves him some Mike Williams.
