Fantasy Football Fix August 6th 2010

crabtreeThe Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football team released its WR primer and we will quickly analyze. They listed wide receivers in tiers and their are no major surprises to us, but the casual fan may find it odd that Dez Bryant is ranked so high.  The article states that Mike Sims-Walker, Santana Moss and Michael Crabtree are WR2’s with clear-cut WR1 potential. The undervalued wide receivers they agree on are Malcolm Floyd and Jacoby Jones, other notables include Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Marshall and Johnny Knox. The overvalued list includes Steve Breaston and Michael Crabtree because of their quarterback situations and Santonio Holmes both due his suspension and being on the most run-heavy team in the league. As far as for rookie receivers they rank them in this order: Dez Bryant, Golden Tate, Mike Williams and Demmaryius Thomas.

Ryan Mathews will be special, at least according to teammate and starting quarterback Phillip Rivers. He notes that Mathews has already made it clear that he is not here to fill the L.T of old’s shoes but that he is here to be Ryan Mathews. Mathews has RB1 potential and will almost assuredly finish the season a top-10 running back.

Darren McFadden stands to get a lot of receptions from Jason Campbell who stated: I’m absolutely stunned at how natural a receiver he is. That’s something we’ll take advantage of. I know Coach Jackson sees it, too.”. Many have predicted that if McFadden cannot show his ability this year that he will be relegated to a third-down/passing down role behind Michael Bush. McFadden has a ton of talent and is a solid sleeper this year.

Louis Murphy stands to emerge as the Raiders main deep threat if Jason Campbell has anything to say about it. Campbell noted that Murphy is the real deal as a deep threat and that quote “I’m impressed,”. Murphy was the deep threat last year but neigh got a good ball thrown his way from JaMarcus Russell and finished the season with one of the worst catches per target percentages in the NFL. Murphy has the potential for 7+ TD’s upon this recent news.
