Fantasy Football Fix August 8th 2010
Matthew Berry of ESPN has released his 100 facts article and we will briefly detail some of the most interesting notes to consider: Frank Gore missed 3 games and was still a top-6 running back; the combination of Turner and Snelling had 15 20+ yard runs, second to only Chris Johnson; Last season when Shonn Greene had 19+ touches he never rushed for less that 128 yards and a score; Larry Fitzgerald has only 5 TD’s in 13 games with Leinart under center; LT is not dead and the Jets rushed 607 times last season; Greg Jennings is the only palyer other than Andre Johnson to have 5 or more 100 yard games in both of the last two seasons; Steve Smith of the Giants had the 2nd most red-zone targets in NFL behind Brandon Marshall; Garcon is not getting any love; There were only 5 running backs last year who had more red-zone carries than KnowShown Moreno. Finally, a player A and player B comparison that really opened my eyes:
“Player C: 705 total yards from scrimmage, seven TDs
Player D: 706 total yards from scrimmage, five TDs”
Player C is Ryan Grant, Player D is Justin Forsett.
ESPN Live Draft results can give you a clearer idea of IDP’s for different players.
Benn starts to impress. Maurice Stovall is still running with the 1’s as Arrelious Benn learns nothing will be handed to him by Raheem Morris and the rest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff. Our projections for him have not changed and will not unless he fails to ascend the depth chart by week 3 of preseason.
Lagarette Blount is trying to carve out a role for the Tennessee Titans offense. He is currently battling Javon Ringer for the the backup job and has an uphill battle to climb after Ringer got time with the first-team during CJ2K’s holdout and impressed coaches during his opportunity. However Blount has the size factor working in his favor and may eventually be tabbed as a short-yardage/goal-line option.
Johnny Knox is dominating Jay Cutler’s eye in training camp. This is not new news but Devin Aromashadu is still being drafted before Knox which makes no sense, take advantage of your fellow owners and land Knox later in your draft. Dynasty league owners this is someone you want to target.
At least one long-term Redskins writer feels that Larry Johnson will have more carries than Clinton Portis according to Matt Mosley and we here at Win My Fantasy League agree. Larry Johnson has more left in the tank as he showed when he got the opportunity running behind a decent line in Cincinnati. Portis showed last year that he may be on his last legs but reuniting with Shannahan might be just what the doctor ordered.
