Fantasy Football Fix June 24 2010
Wes Welker will be fully cleared for all training camp activities according to 985 The Sports Hub and it is time to start giving him a major bump up your cheat sheets. Never avoid studs in your fantasy football draft, Welker is a tough little guy and will reward fantasy owners who took a chance on him in drafts that already took place. If your draft has yet to happen it is now time to consider Welker a risky WR3 and you can bet if preseason reports are positive he will re-enter WR2 conversation. You can currently land him in flex territory so take advantage.
Dez Bryant has signed but Miles Austin is still a top 5 fantasy receiver according to ESPN Insider Eric Karabell. Austin is just outside my top-5 and there is a very good chance he finishes as a top-3 wide receiver. With that said however Dez Bryant is still a better overall talent than Bryant as is a serious threat to his lofty draft status. Roy WIlliams will be the one to suffer form Dez Bryants drafting by the Cowboys, Miles Austin may actually stand to benefit. Austin is a special talent and should ideally be the 6th-8th wide receiver taken though many are taking him earlier.
Antonio Bryant’s knee may still be a problem even though he had surgery on it in the summer before the 2009 season. The knee reportedly gave him some issues last year and has been acting up again during OTA’s. These reports give more credence to the rumor that Terrell Owens may land with the Bengals. Bump Bryant down your cheat sheets, he is now only a flex option until further notice.
Carson Palmer calls for Bengals to sign Terrell Owens. Palmer has been working out with Owens this summer and has told Bengals brass that Owens will be an asset to the team. Nothing is confirmed yet but this will really boost Carson Palmer’s fantasy stock. James Walker of ESPN reports:
“Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer has been working out regularly with Owens in California and has been highly impressed, according to a team source. Palmer has gone so far as to tell Bengals officials what an asset Owens could be and how much talent he still has.”
This is just reports on Carson Palmer’s wishes for now but if your league has already drafted pluck T.O off your waiver wire.
Rotoworld writer Chris Wesseling warns against Justin Forsett and points to a myriad of factors that indicate Forsett is going too early in fantasy drafts. I am on the fence about this one as Forsett has the potential to be an ADP value as the 26th running back off the board. He makes valid arguments though which may make you think twice about making him your RB2. Draft confidently as a RB3 or more desirably as a flex player.
Vincent Jackson no longer a top-25 wide-out? No, with the suspension he is not a top-25 wide-out but he will likely play like a top-15 wide-out, keep this in mind on draft day and if possible position V-Jax for a bench stash once his contract issue become settled. Christopher Harris of ESPN also mentions a few names that can step it up in his absence.
KFFL released its top-150 rankings for both standard and PPR leagues. A great tool when building your own cheat sheets. Remember these rankings are not a suggestion of how your draft will likely play out but rather what KFFL feels the fantasy landscape will look like at the end of the season.
An interesting piece of statistics highlighting Jonathan Stewart’s elite fantasy potential:
“The Daily Show and DeAngelo Williams put up double-digit performances in the same week three times. Stewart went on to be the lead rusher in four of the final five Panthers games due to Williams’ injury, and that contributed to Stewart’s double-digit points in seven of his final 10 games. To give you a comparison, Adrian Peterson had only four in his final 10.”
