Fantasy Football Fix September 21st 2010

michael-vick-eagle_feature1Michael Vick has been named the starter for week 3 and this has the chance to stick. Andy Reid realizes that he has a former superstar who looks better than ever and a green QB looking to embark on his quest to become the Eagles next franchise QB. Kolb’s era can wait until Michael Vick necessitates it, whether it be by falling on his face and losing his job to Kevin Kolb or be it by virtue of an expiring contract at the end of the year. One note: Andy Reid noted that this was a football move and not a Kevin Kolb health related move. I am happy for Vick but Andy Reid caused many a fantasy owner to pass on picking up Vick due to his comments regarding this being Kevin Kolb’s team….let this be a lesson. I really feel for you Kevin Kolb owners.

Kevin Faulk is done for the season with an ACL injury and the Patriots dreaded RBBC has become a lot clearer now. The pecking order is as follows: Fred Taylor, Benjarvus Green-Ellis and Sammy Morris. This may change due to a roster addition or injury but this order will stay pretty firm unless Green-Ellis is able to separate and distinguish himself as the feature back. They all make for good fantasy pickups in deeper leagues in the order listed above based on availability.

Larry Johnson has been released by the Redskins and Keiland Williams is officially a hot pickup. We also recommend a speculative add of Ryan Torain who the Redskins will likely promote from the practice squad unless they look to the trade market. Clinton Portis has been money at the goal-line and is one of the best blocking backs in the league so he will retain some value in this backfield regardless of his YPC ineffectiveness thus far.

Jake Delhomme may have a high ankle sprain and we view this as good news for both Browns fans and Browns player fantasy owners alike. The only player who may suffer is Brian Robiskie who had a growing rapport with Jake Delhomme.

Rotoworld released its top pickups for week 3, and their list much like ours is topped by rookie sensation Demaryius Thomas. The article lists the top-10 rookie debuts ever and the list goes like this from 1-6: Anquan Boldin, Eddie Royal, Randy Moss, Demaryius Thomas, Louis Murphy and Marvin Harrison. Others on their waiver wire pickup list include: Josh Freeman, Marshawn Lynch, Louis Murphy and Aaron Hernandez. If you want the rest of their recommendations….well you are going to have to read their article.

Is Jason Snelling a one-week wonder? This question was posed by ESPN Insider’s Eric Karabell and we agree that he does have some value as Michael Turner’s unquestioned handcuff and now unquestioned backup following the news that Jerious Norwood will be out for the season with a torn ACL.

Rotoworld had a workload report and it should help fantasy owners realize that you ant just rely on last years stats. The running backs in the league with the most touches and rushing yards are Darren McFadden and Arian Foster, two running backs that were going in flex territory (before Tate and Bush’s injuries of course), but were high upside plays all along. Check out their entire report for more information.

The Talented Mr. Roto Matthew Berry of ESPN has his week 3 pickups and a couple of names that were not on our own list include: Kevin Walter (a must-add, but should already be on rosters in active leagues); Josh Freeman (who is getting a lot of love from the fantasy community (hint, hint)) and Devin Hester (another must-add who should not be available).

Braylon Edwards will not start the Jets next game due to his DWI arrest and needs to be on fantasy benches. This is disappointing news as Mark Sanchez and Braylon were showing an obvious red-zone rapport against the Patriots and Santonio Holmes is scheduled back in week 5.

Some interesting questions were asked by ESPN Insider’s Eric Karabell such as: Should Brett Favre be downgraded?; Should Michael Crabtree? and Should you cut Reggie Bush? My answer is a resounding yes to all in redraft leagues. Karabell concurs. Crabtree has to show up some time; Favre needs a healthy Harvin and either Sidney Rice or Vincent Jackson. Bus should be cut in all redraft leagues.

Hank Baskett will sign with the receiver needy Minnesota Vikings. This wouldn’t usually be a big signing, but considering the Vikings receiver woes and the fact that the Chargers are simply asking for too much for Vincent Jackson….well, and also the fact that he is 6’4; this is a fantasy relevant signing. Make the speculative add and stay ahead of the curve; he has flex upside in deeper leagues.
