Fantasy Football Fix September 5th 2010

NFL-RAVENS-BENGALST.J Houshmandzadeh has signed with the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco owners should consider this an early holiday present as Flacco’s floor just got higher as obviously does his ceiling. Joe Flacco has been extremely impressive in his time in the NFL an adding weapons like Anquan Boldin, Donte Stallworth and now T.J Houshmandzadeh exponentially increases his potential. T.J will not have the season in Baltimore he would in Seattle but the Ravens present a chance to contend which probably played a factor in his decision. T.J is now nothing more than a flex play and will likely be stuck at third on the Ravens receiving depth chart barring an injury to Boldin or Mason.  Derrick Mason’s value takes a hit with this signing as does Ray Rice’s PPR value as T.J is set to steal plenty of targets when he is on the field, likely 4-7 a game minimum.

Matt Leinart has been signed by the Houston Texans to backup Matt Schaub. The Texans may actually be a better fit for the party boy Matt Leinart as they have strength at the tight end position Arizona has never had. Leinart should remain on fantasy radars due to Schaub’s inherent injury risk but should not be on any rosters except for in the deepest of leagues.

Ryan Torain has been signed to the Redskins practice squad as expected and we expect him to be on the regular roster coming out of the Redskins bye week. He has a lot of upside and is still worth a roster spot in dynasty leagues as Portis and LJ has proven over the last couple of years to be inconsistent and ineffective at times.

LeGarrette Blount has been waived by the Titans. Maybe that sucker punch did make a issue with coach Jeff Fisher. He may end up signed to another teams regular roster (Seattle anyone?) as we think his future is more NFL than UFL.

Julius Jones has been released and the potential RBBC in Seattle in now a easily navigable backfield. We are firm believers that Pete Carroll likes Leon Washington more and that he will be given an opportunity to run with the starting job. Washington is a much better ADP value than Justin Forsett. Both have RB3 upside but we like them as solid flex options.

Interesting release named include James Hardy of the Bills and Pat White of the Dolphins, two former second round picks that miserably disappointed their respective teams. Hardy should find a job either in the NFL, UFL or CFL while White has the same football options as well as being a solid baseball prospect who has been drafted to the big leagues 4 times.
