Not that he was carrying fantasy teams on his back in the first place, but Hanley Ramirez is still a valuable piece to our championship puzzles. He has still been one of the better shortstops in the National League this season and won’t be easily replaced while on the DL. In his absence, here are a few options that owners can fall back on.
Jason Bartlett, San Diego Padres- This veteran middle infielder is available in approximately 87 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues and 89 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues. He doesn’t have eye-popping numbers, granted, he’s on the Padres, but he’s still arguably the best option available for Hanley Ramirez owners. He has plenty of opportunities at the top of the Padres lineup seeing 208 AB so far this season and has actually been one of the more reliable hitters for San Diego.
.260 AVG, 18 RBI, 10 SB
Cliff Pennington, Oakland Athletics- Another Bay area shortstop that can provide some short-term relief for Ramirez owners. He is ripe for the picking in just about every ESPN fantasy league and 96 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues. Pennington is in the same boat as Bartlett with one of the best averages on the team at .263. One of the cons about Pennington, however, is that he bats at the bottom of the As lineup.
3 HR, 17 RBI, 5 SB
Angel Sanchez, Houston Astros- Sanchez is available in 90 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues and 88 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues. Again, not much to look at but still one of the better options to replace Ramirez at shortstop.
