Hot Pickups – Week 3

Here are the top pickups for week 3 of the fantasy football season:

98604512JE012_SEATTLE_SEAHADemaryius Thomas exploded onto the fantasy scene in his first game as a Bronco with 8 catches for 97 yards and 1 touchdown. Add in any league he is available, he has WR2 upside and I am penciling him in as a low-end WR3 going forward.

Mike Tolbert is a hot pickup after Ryan Mathews went down with an ankle injury. There is no word yet on the severity (Wednesday) but he is the one who received the bulk of the carries following Mathews injury. Add as a possible flex option if Mathews is ruled out.

Jason Snelling is worth an add after his monster day following Michael Turner’s groin injury. Jason Snelling rushed 24 times for 129 yards and 2 TD’s and added 5 catches for 57 yards and a TD. Add him if you have the roster space in daily leagues and wait for news on Turner’s injury before making a waiver claim in weekly leagues. Jerious Norwood also suffered an injury.

Deon Butler had 5 catches for 50 yards and his role in the Seahawks offense is growing weekly. We foresee a breakout game and recommend the speculative add.

Darrius Heyward-Bey is a hot pickup, but of course that is only if Louis Murphy is not available in your league. The Raiders were able to field two fantasy starter worthy lines at WR and at one at RB in one game and things are looking up for Raiders skill players after the Campbell benching. Whether it is Gradowski or Campbell expect DHB to be utilized more going forward after his career high 6 catch, 80 yard performance (he only had 9 receptions ALL of last year). Add as a bye week filler with flex upside.

Aaron Hernandez had 6 catches for 101 yards and is the TE to own in New England. He is worth an add in two TE leagues or as a bye week filler in single TE formats.

Earl Bennett appears to have permanently passed Devin Aromashadu on the Bears depth chart as the third receiver and this is a major blow to fantasy owners as Aromashadu was the first Bears receiver off the board based on ADP. Add in any league where you have the roster space as Cutler and Bennett were teammates at Vanderbilt and are friends off the field.

Brian Hartline finished the day with 3 catches for 28 yards and a TD. He is the starter and is worth an add in deeper leagues. He is nothing more than a bye week filler with flex upside.

Jordan Shipley had 5 catches again and is worth an add in deeper PPR leagues. He is a must-add in dynasty leagues as he has an obvious and growing rapport with quarterback Carson Palmer.

Peyton Hillis had another goal-line plunge and seems like the back to own in Cleveland. He is a bruising runner and a terrific pass catcher and blocker. There is no reason Jerome Harrison, a career backup should emerge with more fantasy value than Hillis. Pick him up if he is still available in your league.

Anthony Dixon had a goal-line TD for the 49ers and he may be valuable as more than just a Frank Gore handcuff in TD heavy leagues.

Josh Morgan finished MNF with 6 catches for 80 yards and will be the main beneficiary of all the attention the trio of Vernon Davis, Frank Gore and Michael Crabtree receive. He is an upside flex play and a solid bye week filler.

Corey Ivory – Reggie Bush will be out at least 6 weeks following his injury on Monday Night Football. Corey Ivory is expected to step up in his absence and is a solid pickup with flex upside. Claim as a bye week filler.
