Hot Pickups – Week 8
Lee Evans is available in 70% of yahoo leagues (no, that’s not a misprint) as of Sunday evening and with Ryan Fitzpatrick under the helm Evans fantasy value has just taken a rise. He is not yet a dependable fantasy starter, but weeks like this make him worthy of a flex2 or flex slot for thinner rosters.
Mike Williams of the Seattle Seahawks is still only 30% owned and needs to added in all leagues after another monster week hauling in 11 receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. This 6’5 receiver has emerged as Matt Hasselbeck’s go-to receiver and is a WR3 the rest of the way. In PPR leagues he is threatening the WR2 threshold.
Kenny Britt was a Fantasy Beast this week with 225 yards and 3 TD’s and strangely despite being a end-zone fixture over last few weeks, Britt is currently available in 40% of yahoo leagues as of Sunday evening, check you wire just to be sure.
David Gettis had a breakout game for the Carolina Panthers hauling in 8 passes for 125 yards and 2 TD’s. He is worth the add in deeper leagues and dynasty leagues but managers in shallow leagues may want to wait until he pulls off another notable week.
Jordan Shipley had 6 receptions for 131 yards and a TD and should be owned in all PPR leagues and should be rostered in deeper standard leagues. His role is set to expand as he figures into the Bengals long-term plans, he is a must-add in all dynasty leagues.
Steve Johnson of the Buffalo Bills had a breakout game with 158 yards and a TD on a whopping 8 receptions. If you have the roster space and are WR need make the add in redraft leagues. Dynasty league managers will want to make the add as Johnson’s talent is legit, only shaky QB play and depth chart issues have masked this fact up to now.
Davone Bess had 6 receptions for 66 yards and a TD in week 7 and despite being a PPR starter he is available in 60% of yahoo leagues as of Sunday evening. Make the add, especially in PPR leagues.
Patrick Crayton had another nice game for the Chargers with 7 receptions for 82 yards and it stands to reason that he will be flex2 worthy until week 12. Make the short-term add after your waiver period ends. Do not spend too many free agent dollars or a high waiver priority on Crayton as by week 12 Crayton will have to contend with Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd for targets.
Andrew Quarless is the tight end to own in Green Bay with Jermichael Finley out for the season. He finished the day with only 2 catches for 16 yards and a TD but he is worth an add after your waiver period has passed. He is a solid TE2 the rest of the way and seems to be in line for Finley’s vertical game targets while Donald Lee will also get snaps due to his superior blocking skills.
Brandon LaFell had a breakout game of his own for the Carolina Panthers with 6 receptions for 91 yards which is more yards than he has had all season. Look for him to build on this performance in the coming weeks with Matt Moore back under center.
James Jones had a solid night for the Green Bay Packers finishing the game with 4 receptions for 107 yards. He has a lot of competition for targets but Jermichael Finley out for the season there are some extra targets to go around and James Jones stands to be one of the main beneficiaries. Consider him an upside flex2.
