Hot Pickups – Week Eight
Tre Mason – Somehow still available in 82 percent of Yahoo! leagues despite it being clear he had taken over the reins in the Rams backfield Mason is one of the top waiver wire adds for week eight of the 2014 fantasy football season. Mason has always had more talent than Stacy and Cunningham and got a chance to finally put it on display in week six when the Rams finally activated him. Mason has RB2 upside the rest of the way.
Denard Robinson – Robinson looks to have taken the reins in the Jaguars backfield and should get to run as the starter until he falls flat in his face. Making him even more enticing is his dual position eligibility which will essentially allow you to sneak another running back into your starting lineup. Robinson is available in 88 percent of Yahoo! leagues and is a low floor RB3/WR3 option as long as he maintains control of the starting job in Jacksonville.
Bryce Brown/Anthony Dixon – With CJ Spiller out for the season and Fred Jackson on the mend the 91 percent available Brown and the 95 percent available Dixon will now rotate snaps for the Buffalo Bills. Who gets the nod here is still up in the air but most fantasy owners are betting on Bryce Brown while Anthony Dixon himself believes he will get his shot. It remains a fluid situation for now and both are worth adds this week while this situation plays itself out.
Charles Sims – Sims is an every-down back who coach Lovie Smith has gone as far as to compare to fantasy superstar Matt Forte. The Doug Martin era appears to be fast reaching its conclusion in Tampa Bay and we expect WMFL favorite Charles Sims to quickly take over the reins for the Bucs and to provide RB2 upside when he starts getting regular snaps. Sims is available in 99 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Doug Baldwin – With Percy Harvin now plying his wares in New York Doug Baldwin takes over as the teams number one receiver. Baldwin will have weekly flex upside but is more of an upside flex option going forward. As evidenced last week Baldwin will indeed have some big weeks but as the Seahawks remain a run-heavy team some inconsistency is to be expected. Baldwin is available in 75 percent of Yahoo! leagues and will be one of the top pickups for week eight.
Allen Robinson – Robinson finally found the end zone in week seven and continues to get WR2 level targets on a consistent basis. Robinson may well be the Jaguars most talented receiver and is showing more polish than many expected in his rookie season. Robinson should be an upside flex2 play with WR3 upside. Robinson is available in 82 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Martavis Bryant – I have said it before and I will say it again, Martavis Bryant is exactly what the Steelers need. While he is not as fast out of his cuts and Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton, the raw rookie from Clemson is the fastest receiver on the team and with his size should prove to be the teams best downfield threat both in foot races and 50/50 situations. bryant will be inconsistent and may still have aways to go before he truly relizes his potential but with Wheaton and Justin Brown both squandering their opportunities Bryan is primed to make the most of his. Bryant is available in 99 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Davante Adams – Davante Adams is beginning to show glimpses for the Packers and should be on fantasy rosters in lieu of his true breakout game at which point he will liekly be considered a WR3 going forward. Adams has the skill set to be a prolific receiver in this offense once Aaron Rodgers starts to develop more trust in him. Add Adams as a deep league flex2 play. Adams is available in 87 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Brandon Lafell – Available in 73 percent of Yahoo! leagues LaFell should be on fantasy rosters in all but the shallowest of formats. LaFell is not someone you want to start week to week outside of 20 man leagues but is someone who can be a matchup play and could become a valuable asset down the stretch for fantasy owners. LaFell will never be a WR1 and in this offense may find even consistent WR3 value hard to achieve but is someone you will want on your roster in case Brady unlocks him and he does breakout.
Paul Richardson – Some are going to try to sell you Jermaine Kearse this week but we are backing Richardson as the receiver that benefits the most from Percy Harvin’s departure with the exception of Doug Baldwin. The Seahawks figure to run more play action and take more deep shots in the vertical game as opposed to the horizontal game they started dabbling as they tried to manufacture touches for Harvin. Richardson is a vertical burner and could quickly become a fantasy force down the stretch if his rapport with Wilson continues to grow. Richardson is an upside bench stash with flex2 upside going forward and is available in 99 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
