Is Hakeem Nicks ready to take over as the Giants #1 receiver?
Hakeem Nicks appears destined for fantasy stardom this season with a projected line of 65+ catches, 8+ TD’s and 900+ receiving yards after a rookie season of 47-790-6. He will not be the #1 target, that mantle will belong to possession receiver Steve Smith, but you never heard anyone saying Wes Welker was New England’s #1 over Randy Moss…did you?
Nicks is the Giants most talented receiver and has game-breaking talent. He averaged 10.8 yards per target which is good for third in the league and he has displayed his trademark exceptional catch and run ability.
Even teammate Steve Smith thinks Nicks has the potential to have a similar type of breakout season to what Smith enjoyed last year.
“Hakeem Nicks. He showed me a lot of ability last year, just raw talent. If he works on some of the little things, the sky is the limit.”
Smith is right and he has a chance to surpass Smith as the most valuable fantasy receiver on the New York Giants.
While some debate whether or not Nicks will start over Manningham, the fantasy football community is debating if Hakeem Nicks offers more fantasy value than #1 Steve Smith and if indeed Nicks has more fantasy potential.
In the end only one thing is certain, Hakeem Nicks is the most talented wide receiver the Giants have and it is only a matter of time until his fantasy value and draft position reflects that.
