Jamison Crowder to the New York Jets: Fantasy Context

Rizzla takes a look at the New York Jets addition of Jamison Crowder, and examines the fantasy context.

With Robby Anderson re-signed, the New York Jets focus was finding a legitimate slot weapon for Sam Darnold. Enter Jamison Crowder. Coming off what for all intents and purposes was a lost season, Crowder came at a $28.5 million dollar price tag for three years.

The New York Jets addressed a need, and can now head into the NFL Draft without a glaring hole at a position of importance. Crowder forms an intriguing trio with Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa.

Fantasy Context:

Jamison Crowder boasts significantly more fantasy upside as a New York Jet. Sam Darnold is an emerging QB who will make good use of a crafty slot receiver. Crowder is still more of a WR4 than a WR3 at this point, but he should be a solid flex2 option even during the first few, non bye weeks.

Quincy Enunwa is now likely to see the vast majority of his snaps on the outside, mitigating his upside unless Sam Darnold takes a major step forward. Enunwa just may be no better than fourth or fifth on the target totem pole when all is said and done. The Jets are not done adding talent on the offensive side of the ball, and Enunwa will surely be behind Anderson and Crowder in targets per game. Enunwa looks like bench depth or a best ball option at this current time. Things could change in the coming weeks as Enunwa is still a talented receiver, but he is not worth spending significant draft capital on.

Sam Darnold sees a nice uptick in his upside with this move. More than actually affect his potential ranking, this move increases his weekly upside. Darnold should now be a more consistent option in redraft. In dynasty leagues Darnold gets a significant value bump. Being locked in with Robby Anderson, Jamison Crowder, and Chris Herndon makes Darnold a QB to target in superflex, and deeper dynasty formats. Darnold could become a solid dynasty QB1 with another significant addition to the offense.
