Jarrett Jack to Hornets: Fantasy Analysis
Jarrett Jack has been shipped to the New Orleans Hornets in a deal involving Jarrett Jack, Marcus Banks and David Andersen going to the Hornets with Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless heading to the Raptors.
On paper this seems to be a win for the Hornets who get a starter for two players that were not even necessary pieces of their rotation.
Jack wont start for the Hornets but the fact they were able to get the Raptors starting point guard for two pieces that did not fit into the Hornets long-term plans represents a win.
Raptor fans appear pretty happy about the deal too.
Fantasy Analysis:
Jarrett Jack loses most of his fantasy value going to New Orleans to play behind superstar Chris Paul. Granted he will get some spot minutes relieving Paul and should also play some backup shooting guard behind Marco Belinelli but he will not get the same usage he got in Toronto at PG. He may emerge with decent value in the deepest of leagues but he can now be made expendable in favor of superior fantasy options.
Jose Calderon gets a major boost in value with news of this trade and should now get starter minutes at the point guard position until a time when Bayless can learn the PG position and begin to push him for the starters job. That may not even happen this year so make the add in all leagues. I have been dropping Jack in favor of Calderon.
Peja Stojakovic gets a fantasy boost with this trade as he should see somewhere close to 20 minutes a game for the surprising but talent-challenged Toronto Raptors. We predict he will be traded to as soon as he is eligible to be dealt.
Jerryd Bayless is being hailed as the Toronto Raptors point guard of the future and we agree that he has a shot to fulfill that role with some seasoning. He has negligible fantasy value this season with both Jose Calderon and Leandro Barbosa capable of playing the point. He will likely serve as help at the shooting guard position as well.
David Andersen is a decent pick and roll player and he will actually be more effective as a Hornet because of it. He should not manage more 10-15 minutes a game and will be more reliable in real games than in fantasy.
Chris Paul gets a slight fantasy upgrade as he now has someone capable to spell him and keep him fresh as well as someone knew to help facilitate in the back court. Paul also stands to benefit from a new pick and roll partner in David Andersen.
Marco Belinelli is the big loser in this trade as his fantasy value stands to decrease the most significantly. Jack will steal minutes directly from Belinelli and Belinelli is a decent sell-high option as part of a package deal. Make the deal soon.
