With all signs pointing to the fact that the notoriously thrifty Carolina Panthers management will not offer DeAngelo Williams a multi-year pact, dynasty league managers should be going all out to acquire Jonathan Stewart.
While both members of the Panthers DeAngelo Williams averaged 77.8 yards per game as the starter, Jonathan Stewart on the other hand has averaged almost 20 yards per game more at 97.5 per game.
At 97.5 yards per game Jonathan Stewart would have been ranked number two in the league last year and would have amassed over 1,500 rushing yards last season.
Unfortunately for fantasy owners Stewart only started seven games for the Panthers in 2010 and managed only 74.9 yards last year with Moore and Clausen at the helm after managing an amazing 150.3 yards per game in three 2009 starts.
Stewart will still be in a time-share in Carolina and with Mike Goodson’s excellent hands he may be relegated to an earlydown back but Stewart is a workhorse capable of pounding the rock 25+ times per game and is a complete running back with better than advertised hands.
There is also some potential that the Panthers draft someone like DeMarco Murray or Noel Devine.
It is not yet set in stone, but it looks like 2011 is the year Jonathan Stewart finally gets to assume the lead-back role he was drafted for.

Stewart will thrive as a primary back in Carolina. He is a great downhill runner and is a perfect fit for the Panthers zone-blocking scheme.
