Jordy Nelson Tears ACL: Fantasy Impact
In a horrible break for the contending Green Bay Packers Jordy Nelson tore his ACL this weekend putting a damper on the Cheeseheads super bowl aspirations.
For fantasy owners who have drafted already this news is likely a death knell as your likely WR1 has been lost for the season before it has even begun, for patient GMs this news has a major impact on your draft plans.
Fantasy Impact:
First it should be noted that there is one less sure fire WR1 on the draft board so adjust your cheat sheets accordingly.
DaVante Adams was a prolific receiver out of Fresno and has the chops to threaten 100 receptions on the season in his new role though we will likely see something closer to 85-90. What one should take note of here is Adams’ red zone usage in limited snaps last season, this leads one to believe Adams could be in for a big year and should make good on his new WR2 ranking.
Richard Rodgers seems to have finally wrestled the starting job away from the unappealing Andrew Quarless and will see a slight bump in his ranking with a boatload of targets to be redistributed. Rodgers is still a TE2 but now possesses significant upside. Rodgers is a slick, pass-catching tight who should be on fantasy radars for the ocean deep leaguers.
Ty Montgomery/Jeff Janis – I expect Janis to get the first look here due to his measurables, familiarity with the offense and standout play in the offseason, before going all in on him however one should take note of Ty Montgomery, a first round talent who fell due to a down year. Montgomery profiles as a larger Randall Cobb type who just needed unfortunate circumstances to make any noise in his rookie season. He is now one of fantasy football’s top sleepers.
Eddie Lacy – Eddie Lacy’s stock is not affected much with this news aside from a slight bump in projected receptions for the season. He remains one of the safest RB1’s in fantasy.
