In the much anticipated Miami Heat – Boston Celtics NBA opener, the Heat looked like the Cavs of last year; Lebron James running the show while the rest of the team watched. At times, it looked as if Miami had not played any preseason games, as the offense was stagnant and indecisive. Lebron carried the team scoring 31 points but without much help the Heat trailed the Celtics for the entire game. His frustration was evident from the disastrous Assist to Turnover ratio. Lebron had 8 turnovers and only 3 assists.
Dwyane Wade did not look like Dwayne Wade at all on opening night. To be fair, Wade had missed almost the entire preseason and was understandably rusty. He had a dismal night, shooting 4-16 with 6 turnovers. But, despite a nightmare on the efficiency side D-Wade still provided 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and a three-pointer. Trade one of those steals in for a block and that should be his per game average in the hustle stats.
Out of ‘the big three,’ Chris Bosh was the most disappointing as he was just 3 for 11 from the field, finishing with only 8 points. He did manage 8 rebounds and 1 block, but so did Udonis Haslem (actually Haslem had 11 boards). Bosh did not have the excuse of being injured during preseason and looked very hesitant at times. He had one amazing baseline move that froze Garnett and led to a nice dunk, but after that he seemed content to just pass it back to Lebron.
Fantasy owners of Lebron, Wade and Bosh – DO NOT worry. It will take a few games before D-Wade, King James, and CB4 get acclimated to playing with one another. The anticipated increased efficiency for Bosh and Wade will happen, but it takes time when you combine three players who are accustomed to being the team focus on every offensive play. Let’s not forget they played perhaps the best defense in the NBA. No one plays better team defense than the Celtics. October 27th is a new day for the Heat, and I have a feeling that Miami will be taking out their anger on the 76ers in Philadelphia. Expect a bounce back game from all three superstars.
