Martell Webster out 4-6 weeks: Fantasy Impact

1

BASKET-NBA-BRITAIN-US-LAKERS-TIMBERWOLVESESPN has reported that Martell Webster will miss up to 6 weeks after undergoing back surgery on October 26th.  This is a huge upgrade for rookie Wesley Johnson.  The 4th overall selection in this year’s draft may still be coming off the bench to start the season, but his minutes will increase dramatically.

Corey Brewer is slated to begin the season as the starting Shooting Guard and Michael Beasley at Small Forward.  Beasley will be solid but Brewer has provided minimal fantasy value over the years.   This year, even less is expected of Brewer now that Minnesota has finally invested in some swingman depth.

Wesley Johnson is extremely athletic and could provide the scarce steal and threes stats if given enough minutes.  Now that Webster is injured, Johnson is the only fantasy-relevant swingman off the bench, meaning he will likely play both the SG and SF positions.

By the time Webster returns, Wesley Johnson will have cemented his role as the top fantasy SG on the Wolves.  Right now Wesley is available in over 40% of Yahoo leagues.  If you are in one of these leagues, make sure to pick him up immediately.
