Win My Fantasy League writers Rizzla and J-Has debate the potential for value based on Average Draft Position (ADP) and Yahoo! rankings in fantasy basketball leagues. The names discussed are top point guards who are expected to surpass their ADP in value.
Rizzla:
Darren Collison averaged 18.8 points and 9.1 assists on .478% shooting and these numbers actually stand to increase with a better supporting cast in Indiana than in New Orleans. I have him ranked as the #8 PG, my colleague J-Has has him ranked as the #12 PG while Yahoo! has him as their #14 ranked PG. He will be a top-10 PG this year and actually has the ability to be a top-5 PG if he can maintain the production he had in New Orleans as the starting point guard while Chris Paul was out.
J-Has:
Darren Collison has the potential to be a top 10 Point Guard, but when ranking I can’t put him ahead of Chauncey Billups. Last year Billups was in a class of his own, averaging 2.2 three-pointers, 19.5 points, 5.6 assists per game while shooting 91% from the foul line. To put this in perspective, Billups finished among the top 10 of fantasy players, despite missing 9 games. He is extremely durable, playing at least 70 games in the past 13 years. But, due to his miles, owners are worried about a potential decline in production. This gives Billups ADP value as this top 10 PG is being picked 26th overall in Yahoo Standard drafts.
Raymond Felton
Rizzla:
Raymond Felton moved to the New York Knicks this off-season and after averaging 12.1 and 5.6 with the Bobcats we expect him to make a leap at least up to the 15 and 7 territory, but he has 17 and 8 upside in this offense. Yahoo! has him ranked as the #17 rated PG while I have him ranked as the #15. In this offense a top-15 finish seems all but assured.
J-Has:
I have ranked Felton slightly above Rizzla at #12, primarily because of his move to the fantasy-friendly offense of the Knicks. Check out more in my Definite ‘Players in New Places’ Fantasy Upgrade for Raymond Felton.
John Wall
Rizzla:
John Wall is a fantasy stud waiting to happen. There will be a time when he averages 20 and 8 but he will likely cap out around 18 and 7 this season. The scary part is that he has the tools to be a premier scorer in this league but has a backcourt mate who opposing defenses will be more scared of than Wall which should stand to make his life a lot easier.
J-Has:
While Yahoo! has ranked John Wall at 22, I have him ranked as the 13th ranked Point Guard. Wall’s situation – handed the Point Guard duties for a team in need of scoring reminds me of Stephen Curry. Last year I drafted Stephen Curry in both my leagues – 120th overall in one and 127th overall in the other because of his talent and situation. Curry ended up as the 7th ranked fantasy player and a first round selection this year. This year, you will have to draft Wall at a higher premium than you did Curry last year, but a mid-rounds draft pick may be worth it for such an amazing talent and his ideal situation in Washington.
