Jeff Green‘s fantasy days look to be over. The trade from Oklahoma City to Boston was definitely a downgrade for Green as he moved from a starter to a reserve role. But few anticipated this much of a drop-off.
Playing less than 17 minutes against the Suns last night appeared to be ‘final straw that broke the camel’s back’ for the former Georgetown Hoya. One would think that Green would excel against the up-tempo, Nash-led Phoenix Suns team. However, instead of moving Kevin Garnett to center and having Green play heavy minutes at the power forward spot, Nenad Kristic started and was used more often.
Jeff Green had been an serviceable fantasy asset in Oklahoma City with the ability to knock down the three, rebound, and score. But in the three contests since being acquired by Boston, Green has failed to eclipse 20 minutes in a game. His block and steal numbers were already down from a season ago, and now with the scattered minutes, he will provide limited fantasy value, unless KG or Paul Pierce are injured.
Anthony Randolph had his best game of the season last night versus the Pistons with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and a steal, while shooting 62 percent from the field. With Darko Milicic attending to a personal matter, it would have been nice to see Randolph start. But despite Nikola Pekovic starting at center, Randolph came off the bench and played almost 25 minutes. Keep in mind that this was just one game and it was against the mediocre Pistons.
I would not pick up Randolph until you see how he fits into the rotation once Milicic returns. If he continues to get 25-plus minutes, he could be a huge pickup and an x-factor for your fantasy team in the playoffs, as he proved two years ago with Golden State. If he finally gets some consistent minutes, he could actually avoid being the biggest fantasy bust of the 2010-11 season.
