QB Rankings – Week Nine
Jake Locker comes in higher than we will likely see him again all season, coming in as our 13th ranked QB for week nine. Locker has proved to be a capable NFL QB this year and has 8 TD’s and 1 pick so far over five games. Locker can also get it done on the ground as evidenced by his 68 rushing yards and a rushing score against the Chargers. The Titans square off against the Rams this week whose secondary has been struggling despite the considerable talent it boasts making Locker a strong bye week play.
Tom Brady continues to struggle in fantasy as the Patriots top offensive weapons continue to work their way back to health. It is obvious that Tom Brady sorely misses security blanket Wes Welker and that Danny Amendola was the mistake waiting to happen that everybody predicted this off-season. Brady has too much natural talent to be ranked outside our top-12 this week but he is trending down as he is not the reliable fantasy start he has been in years past. He is throwing for just 228 yards per game which is his lowest number since 2006. His Julian Edelman aided 5.9 yards per attempt is his lowest ever and his two rookies have led him to posting his worst ever QB rating and completion percentage. Simply put, Brady is having a season to forget; or in other words Brady has been playing worse than Alex Smith.
Nick Foles will get a chance to redeem himself this week against the Raiders. I am not a Foles believer versus the electric Mike Vick, but it is obvious Foles has the talent to be an Andy Dalton level starter in this league. Unfortunately in this contest there is the possibility of LeSean McCoy taking the majority of the touchdowns via the rushing game and also of the Eagles grabbing the lead early and milking the clock with the run game limiting Foles’ potential stats. Foles is an upside QB2 this week and is currently number 14 in our week nine rankings.
Josh Freeman is slated to get the start this week against the Cowboys and as long as his receivers can catch up to his deep balls Freeman should have a decent fantasy day. Freeman is a top-20 play for week nine but he has to realize that Jarius Wright, Jerome Simpson and Greg Jennings are not as good overall or as reliable of deep threats as the big bodied Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.
