RB Rankings – Week Seventeen
Jamaal Charles comes in as our 32nd ranked running back for week seventeen with news breaking that Andy Reid will rest his starters after a series of two. Charles will be the favorite to be the first running overall pick in 2014 fantasy football drafts. Charles leads all running back with 70 receptions through week sixteen.
LeSean McCoy won the rushing title for the fantasy season with 1,476 yards during the fantasy season with nine touchdowns. McCoy averaged a robust 5.1 yards per carry between week one and week sixteen and managed 98.4 yards per game in Chip Kelly’s breakneck offense. McCoy will be a top three pick in 2014 drafts and should continue to be a 1,500 yard rusher due to the extra snaps players get in Kelly’s offense. McCoy is our top ranked running back for week seventeen.
Danny Woodhead corralled 69 receptions through week sixteen, a number that is good enough to tie him for second place with the much more heralded Darren Sproles. Woodhead led this category for much of the season before Ryan Mathews broke out, somewhat limiting Woodhead’s snaps the past few weeks. Woodhead will be a RB2 with an RB3 floor in PPR formats for the 2014 season. Woodhead is currently our 24th ranked running back for week seventeen.
Shane Vereen continues to be injury prone but is an explosive playmaker when he is on the field. The RB2 comes in as our 15th ranked running back for week seventeen.
Giovani Bernard is a fantasy stud in the making and as we have urged our readers all season, if you are in a dynasty league, go hard after Gio as he will become untouchable. Gio may never be a workhorse but can post 1,700 yards from scrimmage on a yearly basis going forward as the lead back of a committee. Bernard is our 16th ranked running back for week seventeen.
C.J Spiller comes in as our 25th ranked running back for week seventeen and proved what we have always suspected since Clemson. Spiller is an explosive change of pace back that is too big play dependent to be a first round pick in fantasy. Spiller could indeed have a better season in 2014 but the ever reliable Fred Jackson will likely stymie those plans.
Like Spiller, Ray Rice was an epic bust this year but Rice still has the goods and the workload to work his way back into the RB1 conversation next year. Rice will be no more than an RB2 on draft day and should go somewhere near the end of the second round. Rice is our 21st ranked running back for week seventeen.
