The Seahawks landed one of the drafts most impressive power backs in Robert Turbin.
Owner of a 4.50 40-time at 222 lbs, Turbin has an impressive power and speed blend especially when considering he paced all running backs with 28 bench press reps at the combine, something usually reserved for smaller backs.
Turbin is impressive on film and screams lead back in a committee but that will not be the case as long as Marshawn Lynch is healthy.
Already nicknamed Beast Mode Jr. after Lynch, Turbin has a chance to become something special within a short-time.
Fantasy Analysis:
Marshawn Lynch – Beast Mode is firmly entrenched as the starter and is a solid low-end RB1 in 2012. Lynch will be the lead back in a 70/30 or 80/20 committee with Leon Washington and Robert Turbin, with Washington handling some of the third down work while Turbin gives Lynch breathers when needed. The addition of Matt Flynn should open things up for Lynch a little more as he beast’s his way to another 1,000 plus rushing yard season.
Robert Turbin – Turbin will not get much of an opportunity in 2012 unless injuries strike. With that said his dynasty league prospects are off the charts as he is a potential future starting running back that could be had in the second round of your draft. Lynch is still a young running back at 26 however so owners may have to wait a couple of years before Turbin really gets an opportunity to seize the starters role. Turbin projects as a handcuff for Lynch owners and a very deep league injury replacement.
Leon Washington – Washington is an explosive receiver out of the backfield and will see most of his work on third downs. He has better value in PPR leagues where he is a flex2 option with flex upside, while in standard leagues he projects as more of a bye-week filler/injury replacement with flex2 upside. Washington’s dynasty league stock has taken a hit with the addition of Turbin as he will be afforded every opportunity to become Lynch’s primary backup and the feature back if and when Lynch goes down.
Sidney Rice/Mike Williams/Golden Tate – As is usually the case a strong run game really helps open things up for the pass, and with Lynch, Washington and now Turbin, the Seahawks now boast a very exciting backfield trio. Rice and the other receivers all get a slight uptick in value with this news. Rice projects as a WR2 with a WR3 floor, BMW projects as a flex option while Tate projects as a flex2/bye week filler.
Matt Flynn/Tavaris Jackson – As mentioned above any strengthening of the Seahawks already strong run game will only serve to help out the quarterbacks in this offense. Defenses will have to respect the run which will allow for easier coverages in the secondary. Flynn looks like a QB2/bye week filler if named starter while Tavaris Jackson is better left on the wire unless you play in a two QB league. We project Flynn to throw for over 3,000 yards and 22 TD’s if given the starters job from week one.
