Season-ending injury for Donnie Avery

98763570EG009_ST_LOUIS_RAMSIn yesterday preseason game against the Patriots, St. Louis receiver Donnie Avery left the game on a stretcher after he awkwardly landed on his knee.   The latest prognosis points to a season-ending injury for the Rams’ top receiver.  This unfortunate injury immediately moves Laurent Robinson up to the number one spot on the Wide Receiver depth chart.  From a fantasy perspective, it should bump Robinson up your draft sheets as there are basically no other fantasy-relevant players on the St. Louis receiving corps.  Right?  Maybe not…………

The most impressive Ram receiver this preseason has been Tight End Michael Hoomananui.  A 5th round draft pick in this year’s draft, Homman stole the show, hauling in 2 TD passes from fellow rookie teammate Sam Bradford.  His 12 yard touchdown catch demonstrated his ability to find the hole in the Patriots’ zone defense, while his 5 yard touchdown grab showed his speed, as he easily out-ran first team Linebacker Brandon Spikes into the endzone.

98763570EG016_ST_LOUIS_RAMSKeep a close eye on Hooman as he could turn out to be the top Rams receiver.  Right now he is behind Danny Fells on the Tight End depth chart, but that could easily change, especially if Bradford starts the season as quarterback.   As rookies are always tough to forecast, there is no guarantee how effective he will be this season.  But considering Hoomananui is only 1% owned in Yahoo! Sports league, there is no risk in picking him up.  As noted in today’s Fantasy Football Fix, Hoomanaui is an immediate Dynasty pickup and should be on your watch list for Re-Draft leagues.
