The Grizzlies have agreed to trade Hasheem Thabeet and a 1st round pick to the Houston Rockets for Shane Battier.
The Grizzlies get a solid veteran who is already a crowd favourite in Memphis and can play anywhere from the 2 to the 4. With Rudy Gay done for the season the Grizzlies needed some help on the wing in order to continue their push for the last playoff spot in the West.
The Rockets who were desperate for a big man, somehow, well not somehow, Daryl Morey managed to land a 1st round pick and the promising Hasheem Thabeet.
Fantasy Impact:
Shane Battier should create a logjam of sorts in Memphis and will hurt the fantasy values of Sam Young, Tony Allen and O.J Mayo. This is a fantasy situation to avoid with Young and Mayo having the upside.
Hasheem Thabeet should get some serious minutes down the stretch in what is for all intents and purposes a lost season for the Houston Rockets. It is impossible to make projections for him but those in deeper leagues will want to make the speculative add now while those in shallower formats will want to add him to their watch lists.
Kyle Lowry is now the unquestioned starter at point for the Rockets and I sincerely hope you were not one of the many who dropped him when Aaron Brooks was set to return. He should go bonkers the rest of the way with the knowledge that the best GM in basketball believes in him enough to deal away the former starter.
