So much for the Jamaal Charles bandwagon; quietly one of the most productive backs in the NFL the past two seasons, Thomas Jones was released by the Jets who are ready to move on with the more talented Shonn Greene, Thomas Jones joins a Chiefs squad and a backfield that he can lead the backfield with. Jamaal Charles’ late season explosion notwithstanding, Thomas Jones is the more effective back and will likely see an even time-share to start the season until one of these two backs distinguishes themselves enough to warrant earning a bigger split of the workload. Charles should start, with Jones being the short yardage and goal-line back.
This addition is detrimental to the supposed fantasy value of Jamaal Charles; someone who this writer never believed could be a feature back for 16 games. Charles, kept fresh, is in line to make a comparable fantasy impact as he did before the signing, as the Chiefs were destined to bring in another back, Charles is just lucky it was not through the draft, where his long-term future with the club would than be brought into question.
Shonn Greene is a 1st round back hiding in the 2nd round, so lets be quiet about this one and try to steal him on draft day, okay?
