In one of the more surprising cuts of the preseason, the NFL Network is reporting that the Washington Redskins have released Tim Hightower. Coming off ACL surgery, Hightower appeared to be fourth on the crowded Washington Running Back depth chart, behind Roy Helu Jr., Evan Royster and Alfred Morris.
Fantasy Impact
Bump Hightower up your draft board. Why? Because he will likely be picked up by another NFL team and he should immediately become their backup running back. In his first three seasons (2008-2010) with the Cardinals, Hightower averaged 578 rushing yards and over seven touchdowns per year. Last year, he was injured, so he only managed to play in five games for the Redskins. Whatever teams that he ends up with will almost certainly be a better situation than in Washington.
All NFL teams must cut their team down to a 53-man roster by 9:00pm tonight, so expect more surprises tonight.
